There are tons of furniture and decor stores out there, but few are as beloved as IKEA. The Swedish home furnishings giant has earned a reputation for its affordable, stylish items, which cover everything from storage and organization to lighting, kitchenware, and outdoor essentials. The one downside to their vast array of offerings, though, is simply knowing what’s worth your money—especially when you’re shopping in person at one of their large warehouses. So, our editors are stepping in to help guide you through the greatest hits in the catalog, calling out the best IKEA products that have stood the test of time in our very own homes.

Dressers, bookshelves, closet systems, and even tablecloths are included in our picks, with prices starting at as low as $20. And remember that one of the best parts about IKEA products is that you can oftentimes customize them to suit your needs. For example, you’ll find the popular KALLAX shelf unit not once, but twice on our list. Why? Because you can use it as a bookcase, office storage, a media console, or even a sideboard in a dining room. You can swap the hardware on many of their dresser models to showcase your style. And IKEA light fixtures are so versatile, many can be hung on the wall or placed on a nightstand—your choice. These finds are truly multifunctional, which makes them an excellent choice when you need a quick, easy, and budget-friendly refresh.

01

GODISHUS Wardrobe

IKEA

$199.99

“I live in a New York City apartment, so it’s safe to say I’m always on the hunt for clever storage solutions. In this specific instance, I needed an extra coat closet in a bad way. Even though this is technically in the kids’ section, it fits perfectly into my tight corner and holds about 20 of my jackets and coats (including a thick faux fur). It also has a shelf that I use for shoes and items I want to keep out of sight. Plus, it looks great and blends seamlessly with the rest of my closet. The real cherry on top? It was easy to assemble with no power tools, all on my own.” —Megan Stein, Editorial Director

02

HEMNES Bookcase

IKEA

$279.00

“Let’s be honest—there’s a reason we all love IKEA. It’s stylish, it’s fun…and it doesn’t wreck your budget. I picked up this sleek little bookcase on a whim, thinking it would be a cute, temporary fix for my bedroom. It’s slim, so it doesn’t hog space, and it perfectly shows off my favorite books, photos, and little keepsakes. What I didn’t expect? Staying power. I bought it FIFTEEN years ago. Since then, it’s moved with me across three states and through countless room rearranges—and it’s still going strong. Affordable and built to last? That’s a win-win.” —Erica Brown, Social Media Director

03

KALLAX 8-Shelf Unit

IKEA

$79.99

“All you vinyl nerds out there will already know about this shelf. It can look a little generic, but if you get a non-white version, it works (especially once it’s full of your stuff). It is really tough to find suitable shelves to house records and these fit vinyl records perfectly—something most coveted by collectors. These also work well for kids shelves due to the storage basket and bin options IKEA manufactures that can fit snugly into the shelves. The storage shelves are a great way to hide clutter and keep things looking nice and neat. Something all parents out there most desperately desire.” —Jim Bertoni, Art Director

04

PAX Wardrobe System

IKEA

$0.00

“My favorite IKEA product is the PAX Wardrobe System. While a closet solution isn’t the most sexy product in the catalog, it well makes up for lack of pizazz with product design excellence. With hundreds of components that all fit together smartly, PAX is ecosystem design at its best: both highly flexible and deeply satisfying. I have PAX elements in no fewer than five diverse areas of my home, from a traditional wardrobe closet, to office and design studio storage, bathroom cabinetry, a basement workbench, and an outdoor potting shed. Setting up the various drawers, inserts, shelving and other accessories is intuitive and scratches that organizational itch, both on installation day, and for years to come.” —Katie Noyes, Creative Director

05

FADO Table Lamp

IKEA

$29.99

“In our house, overhead lighting is a no-no. So it’s essential to have soft mood lighting like this lamp. I use a smart bulb in mine and it’s set to a pale pink which is such a nice light source in the evenings when I’m trying to wind down.” —Aly Nagel, Community Manager

06

HEMNES 3-Drawer Dresser

IKEA

$299.99

“I bought this solid wood dresser for one of my first apartments and it never failed me. I had it for over four years, and only resold it because I wanted to change up my bedroom decor when I moved. That said, I think this is a really lovely piece that can work in most spaces, from a chic primary suite to an adorable kids’ room. It’s a very versatile option with strong long-term value.” —Megan

07

KALLAX 16-Shelf Unit

IKEA

$179.99

“Even though Jim stole my all-time favorite KALLAX shelving as his pick earlier, I had to actually mention it again because it’s really that notable. I have had the black-brown KALLAX storage unit as a bookshelf for over 20 years, and it has survived several moves including across the country and back in that time. It’s a sturdy workhorse that exudes Scandinavian minimalism and won’t break the bank.” —Barb Dybwad, Strategy & Operations Director

08

RÅSKOG Utility Cart

IKEA

$39.99

“When I think of versatility, this utility cart immediately comes to mind. I’ve used it as a bar cart in the past (and in fact my former roommate is still using it—nine years later). But it would be just as handy in the kitchen, craft room, kids’ room, garage, or any spot where you need that extra level of organization. Bonus points for its extremely affordable price tag and its choice of three colors, though I had this nice blue in my home.” —Megan

09

SVARTSENAP Tablecloth

IKEA

$17.99

“These are stylish and don’t break the bank. Kind of like everything from IKEA come to think of it. I have two children and we go through a tablecloth each night. I bought three of these and three of the green (though, sadly, it looks like the green is not available anymore). What I like about these is because of the thread, stains are well-hidden so as to hide my not-so-perfect-life.” —Jim

10

BILLY Bookcase

IKEA

$59.00

“The BILLY bookcase is a classic for a reason. It’s inexpensive, comes in a ton of finishes, is narrow enough for small spaces (though they offer larger versions, too), and looks simple and chic. IKEA also sells doors and other accessories for this unit, if you want to integrate closed storage or other custom options as well.” —Megan

Dyson V15 Detect Complete Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Amazon

$619.99

“My little pup got his teeth extracted, and sometimes he leaves some kibble on the floor. Having this lightweight, cordless vacuum is a dream for quick cleanups after his breakfast spills. It doesn’t feel like a hassle to lug out of the closet, it’s easy to maneuver around the house, and it cleans seriously well. This Dyson has saved my carpets (and my sanity!).” –Stacey, Head of Video

Dyson V8 Plus Cordless Vacuum

Amazon

You don’t even want to know what kind of dirt and grime I emptied out of it after using this for the first time on my sofa. Here’s my full review, if you’re interested.” –Megan, Editorial Director

Winter break always starts out feeling magical—but once the no-school novelty wears off, parents everywhere find themselves asking the same question: “Okay…now what?” The good news is that with a few simple family activities to get you through winter break, you can turn those long, dark days into unforgettable memories. From DIY holiday crafts that spark creativity to family board games that get the whole house laughing, winter break is the perfect time to come together for some good old-fashioned (and phone-free!) fun.

You don’t need expensive outings or elaborate activities to make the most of your time off, either. In fact, many of these ideas use things you already have at home. So whether your crew loves cooking, reading, building, or just being a little silly, these family-friendly activities work for kids of all ages and can make the week feel special instead of stressful. Let the break (and the bonding) begin!

Build a Family Tree

Grab some old photos and make a simple family tree that goes back as far as you can remember. It’s fun, easy, and free—plus, little ones will love hearing the family stories that pop up along the way. Best of all, when you’re done, you’ll have a meaningful keepsake that the kids can keep adding to as they grow.

Start a Family Book Club

Bookworms young and old will love this one! Pick a book that feels doable for everyone, whether it’s something brand new or a nostalgic favorite you loved as a kid. Depending on your family’s style, you can read it aloud together or let everyone read at their own pace throughout the week. When the weekend rolls around, gather with snacks and drinks and chat about the parts you loved most. It’s such an easy tradition to start—and it makes reading feel a whole lot more fun than homework!

Turn the Living Room Into a Restaurant

Want to turn a normal lunch or dinner into an event? Kids get a thrill out of pretending to be little chefs and servers, so transform your kitchen or living room into a restaurant with a few easy touches like fancy napkins, a “specials” board, or a makeshift host stand. Then watch their imaginations run wild as they come up with a silly name for the restaurant, design menus, and plan a simple meal to serve you. Order up for fun!

Make a DIY Time Capsule

With New Year’s on the horizon, there’s no better time to reflect on your year together. Grab a shoebox and let each family member add a few things that represent their year, such as photos, drawings, cards, or ticket stubs. Seal it, decorate it, and hide it somewhere safe—then get excited about the big reveal next year.

Design a Vision Board

These are so fun to make! Have them cut out pictures and words from magazines that speak to what they’re hoping to achieve in the following year. It could be making the soccer team, getting straight As, having more slumber parties—whatever they want. It’ll get everyone excited for 2025.

Build a Fort

There’s something incredibly nostalgic about a blanket fort. Find out how you can set it up, and afterwards all you have to decide is what snacks and blankets you’re going to bring into your cozy den.

Throw a Karaoke Dance Party

Does anything feel better than belting out your favorite tunes and jumping around the living room? That’s exactly why you need to host a family karaoke dance party. You can find a lot of videos on YouTube to help guide you, or have everyone queue up their favorites and hope for the best. (It’s just as fun!) When you’re done, add the songs to a playlist so you can remember and enjoy for years to come.

Go on a Neighborhood Walk

It’s very likely that everyone has their holiday decorations up, so you might as well enjoy them with a good, old-fashioned stroll. You can admire everyone’s handiwork while getting a little exercise, too.

Decorate a Gingerbread House

This one’s a classic! There are a ton of great gingerbread house kits that you can buy online, but you can also go the extra mile and make the gingerbread and its accessories at home. Not only will it take up a good chunk of time, but it’ll also get the little ones using their hands and having fun in the kitchen with you.

Tidy Up & Donate

Hear us out—this doesn’t have to be boring! While everyone’s together in the house, this is the perfect time to go through their closets and donate anything they don’t like or doesn’t fit anymore. Make it fun by turning it into a little fashion show, complete with accessories and a catwalk.

Plan a Scavenger Hunt

If your family loves escape rooms like Jonathan (it was his and Zooey’s first date!), then making your very own scavenger hunt could be a blast for the whole crew. A fun way to make it interesting for the kids? Whoever wins gets to open one of their presents early this year.

Try Easy Seasonal (or Regular!) Crafts

With plenty of craft kits for both kids and adults out there right now, why not get a little crafty and hand-make something new? It could be as simple as a paper snowflake or as complex as a snow village painting kit. And doing it together makes everything ten times more fun!

Color Outside the Lines

Our DrewandJonathan.com team has a whole bunch of free, printable holiday coloring pages for your family to tackle. They range from intricate gingerbread houses and ornaments to simpler snowman-themed sheets, so there’s a little something for every age range.

Go Ice Skating

‘Tis the season, after all! If you’re up for it, take the whole family to a local ice skating rink and put your skills to the test. Even if someone isn’t that interested, they can still sit on the sidelines with a cup of cocoa and cheer everyone else on. Don’t forget to bundle up!

Have a Hot Chocolate Movie Night

Speaking of hot cocoa, another fun activity is creating a fabulous hot chocolate bar at home and cuddling up with the coziest blankets for a family movie night. We have all the tips and tricks you need here, so all you’ll have to do is grab the supplies and pick the film. If that’s always the hardest part, have everyone write an idea on a piece of paper and then choose one out of a hat.

Plan a Tropical Stay-Cation

After all that holly jolly-ing, you might be sick of the cold! Plan a tropical “vacation day” at an indoor waterpark. Or if there’s not one nearby, have the kids craft fun props while you cook warm-weather snacks to set the mood. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

Host a Neighborhood Game Night

Chances are, you aren’t the only parent looking for ways to keep the little ones entertained. Grab one of your favorite board games and invite your pals over for a night of friendly competition. Depending on the size of the group, you can have one table for kids and one for adults, or you can everyone play against each other. Make the hosting part easy by going potluck-style and asking everyone to bring their favorite snack.

Make Homemade Crystals

We can’t imagine a cooler way to sneak in a little science at home than by making these crystals from Mommy Musings. Not only are they super easy to make and require only a few ingredients, but they are also great for a wide age range of youngsters. This might be the first time your kids head back to school bragging about their winter break.

Hang T-Shirt Wall Art

If you’re planning on making some fun design additions to your home, this upcycling wall art from Nicole Olea can go to the top of your to-do list. You’ll be able to get the whole family involved, reuse old T-shirts that you can’t bear to get rid of, and fill your walls with some pretty, personal decor.

Make Mermaid Slime

Kids always go nuts at the mere mention of the word “slime,” and adding another buzzword—“mermaid”—in there will totally blow their minds. This glorious, gooey craft from Ever After in the Woods is a fun, hands-on activity for kids of all ages and perfect for a dreary afternoon. Just make sure they don’t eat it!

Attempt a Kids’ Kitchen Takeover

Curing the winter blues gets a whole lot easier with this kitchen takeover idea from Eighty MPH Mom. This is a great one for high-schoolers who like to experiment and are familiar (and can be trusted) with the oven. Feel free to sit back, relax, and let the kids take over the kitchen—including cleanup!

Laugh All Night With a Family Talent Show

Your kids will never complain about being bored again after they plan, produce, and star in a family talent show! Clear out room for a “stage” in your living room, invite your friends and neighbors, and make a whole night out of it. This tutorial from Our Family Lifestyle even shows you how to make it happen on a budget.

DIY a New Year’s Eve Balloon Clock

If you let your kiddos stay up until midnight to ring in the new year, this giant balloon countdown clock from The Suburban Mom will help them make the most of it. While waiting for the magical ball to drop, the whole family can pass the time by discussing their goals and dreams for 2024.

Relax With Snowflake Bath Bombs

Your kids will look forward to coming in from playing in the snow if they get to jump into a warm tub infused with one of these snowflake bath bombs from The Afropolitan Mom. Scented with essential oils, they are safe for sensitive skin and can double as festive treats for friends and family.

Craft No-Bake Bird Feeders

Get the kids out of the house (and give your cookie cutters some extra love) with these no-bake bird feeders from The Neighborhood Moms. Kids will get an up-close look at the wildlife that lives right in their backyard and learn compassion for them at the same time.

Try DIY Fleece Scarves

No need to break out the sewing machine for these cozy accessories! Mix and match prints with all the fleece that will be on sale after the holidays, then follow these straightforward instructions from Easy Peasy Creative. Your whole family can be twinning—and oh so warm—in no time.

Holiday season hosting can feel overwhelming. Between planning the menu, getting the house ready, and figuring out how to set a holiday dinner table that feels festive rather than fussy, you’ve certainly got your hands full! But the good news is, you don’t need a picture-perfect spread to wow your guests. The key to making the most of your holiday gathering is to focus on what matters most: a cozy atmosphere, good food, and a few simple festive decorations to pull it all together.

Whether you’re hosting a big family celebration or a small dinner party for friends, a few smart shortcuts and intentional touches go a long way. Think family-style dishes that make serving a cinch, a holiday dinner table set with pieces you already love, and just a sprinkle of sparkle or greenery as a nod to the spirit of the season. With these easy holiday season hosting ideas, entertaining this year will feel a little less stressful—and a whole lot more joyful.

1. Prepare a Bathroom Basket for Guests

The bathroom is one of the most-used spaces during any gathering—yet we often think of it last. Make guests feel welcome by setting out a small basket with essentials like tissues, hand lotion, extra toilet paper, breath mints, and a stain remover pen. Not only does this keep guests comfortable, but it also saves you from having to run around refilling things mid-party. You can even make the space feel festive and cozy with a seasonal candle or holiday-themed hand towel. They’re small details, but ones that guests will always notice.

2. Create a “Landing Zone” for Coats, Shoes, and Bags

When guests arrive, you don’t want to have to scramble to find hangers or places to stash jackets. Setting up a designated area for people to drop their coats and other belongings will help guests feel welcome and ensure you’re not dealing with a giant pile of coats on the bed. (Just think how much smoother the end of the night will be!) A coat rack for jackets, a basket for scarves and hats, and a simple bench for shoes is really all you need to keep things feeling tidy and thoughtful.

3. Prep Food Ahead of Time

If there’s one thing you can do to save yourself from stress while your guests are arriving, it’s prepping your holiday food beforehand. Any dishes that can be made a couple days in advance, like casseroles, stews, gravies, pies, and more, will help cut down on cooking time day-of. That way, you can just pop them into the oven before guests come over and focus more on the holiday party you’re hosting.

4. Curate Your Perfect Playlist

The perfect party deserves the perfect playlist! Collect your favorite holiday songs or classics and create a Spotify or Apple Music playlist. (Drew and Jonathan shared some of their favorite holiday songs here!) Start the playlist right when you wake up that morning to boost your mood—your guests will be rockin’ around the Christmas tree all night, and it’ll set the tone for a fun and festive evening as soon as they arrive.

5. Give Out Festive Party Favors

Are party favors necessary? Not always. But do they make the holiday party so much cuter for guests? Absolutely. Go with a themed candy, some fun and functional piece with a holiday motif, or even gift your guests with an adorable ornament keepsake. Adding in a festive party favor is a sweet way of saying thank you to your guests, and makes everyone feel special.

6. Declutter and Toss What You Don’t Need

While it can be tempting to hold onto the items you have tucked away in your closet for just the right occasion, odds are, if you aren’t using them now, you probably won’t use them anytime soon. The fewer random knickknacks and unfinished projects you have to juggle, the easier it will be to actually clean and organize the rest of your space. Be it adding in some underbed storage or finally tackling the kitchen cabinets, getting the clutter out of sight will help keep your space looking clean for guests.

7. Give the House a Deep Clean

When you’re switching between your normal and seasonal decor, take advantage of the transition time to vacuum, dust, and wipe down every surface. This is probably the barest your house has been in a while, so it will be easier to reach all the nooks and corners where mess likes to build up. A good quality vacuum or vacuum mop can take your home from clean to sparkling real quick.

8. Spruce Up the Entryway for a Good First Impression

No matter what type of get-togethers you have planned this season, every guest is going to have to pass through your entryway. So if your time is limited, deck the halls of your doorway so they feel the seasonal joy right away. This can be as simple as adding a festive wreath to the front door or placing a holiday doormat at the foot of the doorway. That little touch of holiday spirit goes a long way, and sets the tone for the rest of the evening.

9. Plan Well So You Can Enjoy the Party, Too

The more mouths you have to feed, the more important it is to make sure that any drinks and refreshments are easily accessible. If you don’t want to play bartender the entire night, then a well-organized bar cart can allow guests to serve themselves. Similarly, strategically placing serving trays around a space can keep crowds from clustering around just one or two spots.

10. Create a Place to Rest and Relax

Seating is another issue that can come back to bite you if you’re not prepared. While most guests will appreciate simply having a place to rest their feet, you can really make them feel comfortable by arranging different clusters of seats to suit their needs. Let those looking to keep the party going lounge in the room with the music and set up space near the fire for those having quiet conversations.

11. Tidy Up the Guest Room

If any of your visitors are staying overnight, then don’t forget to prep your guest room for the holiday season. On top of having clean sheets and a comfy spot to rest their head, we have a few extra tips on how to make them feel as if they have a home away from home. A few simple luxuries will make for a more peaceful stay, and the extra thoughtful touches are an easy way to show your hospitality.

Holiday Hosting Q+A

How to host for the holidays on a budget?

When it comes to throwing a holiday party, there are a few things that matter most: good food, good drinks, and even better company—all of which can be done on a budget. Start by planning your menu around family-style dishes like soups, pastas, casseroles, or big salads, and ask guests to bring a side, dessert, or drink to share. You can also cut down on costs by using what you already have for decor: Candles you own, greenery or pinecones from the yard, or a few ornaments in a pretty bowl can look just as festive as something new and expensive. Top it off with little touches like holiday music, cozy lighting, and a few simple seasonal decorations, and you’ve got all the makings of an unforgettable holiday bash.

Thanksgiving is all about gratitude. Whether celebrating with our family or our found families, gathering to share a meal with the ones we love is the reason for the season. Around the table (usually with a spread of turkey, stuffing, and all the Thanksgiving fixings) we’ll come together to share a beautiful meal and plenty of quality time together—be it a formal Thanksgiving dinner or a fun Friendsgiving with our closest friends. Friendsgiving is a celebration of those who are like family, minus the shared DNA part. If you’re hosting the Friendsgiving party this year, there’s a lot more to keep in mind than just delicious food and tasty drinks. You’ll also need some tips to make your event feel special for everyone.

Laying out a seasonal tablecloth; formally setting the dining table with your favorite dinnerware; decorating your space with holiday decor—it’s the little things that’ll make your dinner party feel memorable. You could set out Thanksgiving or fall-themed mugs for a post-dinner hot cocoa bar, or encourage guests to bring their favorite family recipes to share with one another. However you make it happen, there are creative ways to make your Friendsgiving celebration feel personally tailored to your guests. To help you curate an extra special Friendsgiving ambiance, we put together tips and ideas for Friendsgiving that’ll ensure everyone leaves thankful for the time spent together.

1. Include Personalized Touches for Your Guests

One of Jonathan’s favorite things to do to make guests feel welcome is frame a photo of them ahead of their arrival and place it on the nightstand. It’s small, personalized touches like this that add a really warm layer to their stay. You can take inspiration from this at your dinner party by including a photo of you and your guest together inside a small frame by their place setting, or even making DIY ornaments for them to take home. However, it could also be as simple as placing a handwritten thank you card on top of every plate—as long as it’s something sweet and personal, it’ll make them feel so treasured.

2. Don’t Try to Do It All Yourself

Like any large dinner party, there is a long list of to-dos to check off before (and during) the party. Between prepping the holiday feast itself to getting the house ready for guests, finding or DIYing decor for the party, and making sure everything gets into the oven at the right time for serving, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But it doesn’t have to be all on you! Ask your friends for help with the details—be it bringing a dish, setting the table, getting the wine, or something else. Delegate these tasks in the group chat so you’re all on the same page. This way, your own to-do list is at least a little more approachable, and everyone feels like they’re doing their part to make the Friendsgiving festivities come together.

3. Curate a Creative Menu

Yes, we’re stating the obvious here… But there’s a twist: Since this isn’t a traditional family Thanksgiving meal, turkey and stuffing aren’t 100% essential. Mix things up and design a creative menu that will please every person—and every palate—on your guest list. Or, go the potluck route. But don’t forget to share who’s bringing what ahead of time, so you don’t have recipe redundancies. Also consider making menu cards to position at each place setting for a thoughtful touch.

4. Make Sure Your Table Fits the Crew

Make sure you have enough table space and adequate seating to host your whole crew. If space is a bit tight, consider setting up dishes buffet-style on a kitchen island or bar. Incorporate extra seating where you can, be it poufs or benches, accent chairs, foldable chairs, or something else. If you don’t have space to store these, guests, friends, or neighbors might be able to lend stools or chairs instead if you ask.

5. Style or DIY Plenty of Festive Decor

Incorporate timeless Thanksgiving decor standbys like fall scented candles or taper candles, pumpkins, leaves, and turkeys, and get creative as you’re setting the tone for your gathering! Pinterest can be a real lifesaver here, especially for DIY table settings. But don’t stress too much over these details—it’s about the food and company, after all.

6. Make a Great Holiday Playlist

You can’t have a good party without the right tunes! From mellow jazz to moody R&B or lively pop, a custom soundtrack can help set the vibe for your festivities. Choose softer sounds for the dinner portion of the evening (so you can, you know, actually hear each other) and save the more energetic songs for after dessert. Get started with one of these classic dinner party, Friendsgiving, or fun dinner playlists, or even Pandora’s Friendsgiving station.

7. Lay Out Paper and Pens for Thankful Notes

Set aside 15 minutes before dinner for yourself and your guests to write out what they’re thankful for and share with the group. This is also a great opportunity to start your own Friendsgiving traditions! Tell jokes, share stories, or go around the table and introduce any guests who might not know each other very well. It’ll set the mood for togetherness and make everyone feel closer.

8. Serve a Fun Thanksgiving-Themed Drink

Create a custom cocktail to wow your guests (may we suggest this autumnal bliss from our cocktail expert, Charles Joly?) Make a few batches ahead of time so you’re not playing bartender all night. Wine—at least one white and one red—is standard to have on-hand for your meal. And don’t forget a few non-alcoholic options, like sparkling water or a mocktail!

9. Don’t Forget the Pie!

Apple piePecan piePumpkin pieSweet potato pie! No Friendsgiving (or Thanksgiving) meal—or any meal, really—is complete without several decadent dessert options. Whip up your personal specialty, stock up on whipped cream, and remind your guests to save room. Setting out some cute desert plates is a nice touch, too.

10. Set Out Cameras for Photo Ops

Take your celebration from an entertaining social event to a social media event with a unique hashtag. Even if you don’t care about likes and follows, a custom hashtag can help you track and organize all the photos posted by your guests.

11. Provide Easy Takeout Containers

Thanksgiving might as well by synonymous with leftovers. And like the traditional holiday, you’re bound to have extra food after your Friendsgiving feast. Keep some recyclable or reusable takeout containers handy so your guests can take scurry home with the surplus goods. More treats for them, less cleanup for you? That’s a win-win.

12. Have Friends Write Out Recipe Cards

Encourage everyone to bring and write down their favorite recipes as a way to look back on and remember the evening. Get a cookbook or a recipe box that you can use year after year, and start filling it up with everyone’s signature dishes. You can recreate delicious dishes and share something a little extra special with your favorite people. In a few years, your recipe book will be filled with foods from many loved ones in your life.

Decorating your home for cozy season is about more than just making it look warm and welcoming—it’s about how your space makes you feel. That’s especially true in the colder months, when winter essentials like throw pillows, scented candles, and cozy blankets can transform a house into a haven. And the best part about seasonal decorating is that a few simple swaps truly can make all the difference. Try trading in your lightweight summer bedding for flannel sheets, keeping a basket of throw blankets by the couch, or lighting candles that fill the room with a soft glow and comforting scent.

Even small updates like a textured rug or faux fur throw can completely change the look and feel of your space. And when the weather outside is frightful, it’s even more important to make your inside space feel delightful. Whether you’re looking for ways to make your home cozy for quiet nights in or simply want to add a few winter-ready touches, these 12 cozy home ideas are exactly what you need to embrace homebody season.

01

Worn Velvet Blackout Curtain

West Elm

$159.00

Velvet curtains don’t just look luxe—they also pull double-cozy duty to help keep the cold air out. This winter, swap your lighter summer drapes for this worn velvet set to instantly make your living room feel warmer and more intimate. Deep jewel tones like golden oak and regal blue look especially cozy during the colder months.

02

7-Point Star Paper Lantern

Urban Outfitters

$14.00

Nothing sets a dreamy winter mood like a glowing paper star. Hang a few of these lanterns above a reading nook, in your front window, or by on either side of your entryway table to add soft light and a little magic to those long, dark winter nights. Bonus: The floral-inspired cutouts cast the prettiest shadows!

03

Stewart Plaid Flannel Queen Sheet Set

Pottery Barn

$149.00

Cold nights call for flannel—and nothing says winter like a classic plaid set. Warm yet breathable, these sheets will make your whole bedroom feel like a cozy cabin retreat. Pair them with a solid-colored quilt or duvet for a timeless layered look that’ll keep you warm all winter long.

04

Celeste Organic Cotton Taupe Desert Floral Block Print Quilt

Crate & Barrel

$279.95

In the fall and winter months, a quilt is a great addition to your regular bedding for an added layer of warmth. This 100% cotton quilt features desert-inspired vintage florals in a warm taupe and olive colorway. Layer it with cream flannel sheets or a chunky chestnut knit throw to make your bedroom extra cozy on cold nights.

05

Cozy Teddy Faux Fur Pillow Cover

Pottery Barn

$69.50

Layer in some throw pillows or change out your regular throw pillow covers with comfy winter textures and colors, like this tobacco-colored teddy pillow cover. It comes in two square sizes—20 and 24 inches—so you can mix up your look, too.

06

Dawnwake Mushroom Table Lamp

Amazon

$39.99

Lighting is key to a cozy atmosphere. Instead of using overhead lights, incorporate table lamps or portable lamps throughout your space. They create a softer, more relaxing ambience. Place this one on a nightstand, side table, or even a bookshelf to bring a little light to spots that tend to feel dark in the winter.

07

Alpine Luxe Faux Fur Throw

Pottery Barn

$169.00

We all know a faux fur blanket is a must-have home accessory in the winter months. Not only is it a fabulous piece of decor you can throw over the couch or the edge of your bed to layer in some different texture, but it’s also a favorite for snuggling up with.

08

mise en place Gourmand Cinnamon Swirl Tin Candle

Anthropologie

$22.00

Lighting a cozy candle while you wrap up in a fluffy blanket watching your favorite TV shows—is there anything better? This gourmand-scented candle has notes of warm cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, and brown sugar, baked together to make your home smell like freshly baked cookies whenever the moment calls. Set one on a coffee table or nightstand to fill the room with a warm glow.

09

Mandy’s Artificial Silk Flowers

Amazon

$19.99

Florals always make a space feel warm and welcoming. If you don’t feel like maintaining real flowers or plants, opt for faux stems in a few vases to bring the outdoors in.

10

BodyRestore Shower Steamers

Amazon

$29.99

Creating a cozy home isn’t just about the decor—it’s about setting the vibe, too. These steamers turn that warm shower into a spa, which is exactly what you’ll need after shoveling snow off the driveway. Drop one in the shower to transform your nightly routine into a spa-worthy escape after a cold day outside.

11

Espresso Coconut Stripe Luxe Bath Towel Set

Cozy Earth

$208.00

And what feels cozier than getting out of the shower and wrapping up in a plush bath towel? This luxe espresso and coconut striped set from Cozy Earth comes with two bath towels, two hand towels, and four washcloths, but you can buy them individually instead, if that’s more your style. Stack them on an open shelf or in a basket so they double as decor.

12

Tufted Wool Geometric Scalloped Rug (5 x 8 ft)

Anthropologie

$598.00

The final touch for your coziest home yet is… Hey, you’re stepping on it! This beautiful tufted wool rug has an interesting geometric pattern with scalloped edges and a warm-toned colorway perfect for cozy season. Especially as the weather cools down, it’s nice to have something soft and comfy underfoot while you’re settling into a movie marathon or getting ready for bed. It’ll make that morning coffee on the couch that much more enjoyable.

If you’ve been keeping up with the Brothers on YouTube, then you’ll know that Drew Scott has a new batch of videos coming out, and they’re chock-full of all your favorites: surprise appearances, sledgehammers, and gorgeous renovations. But Drew’s been fixing up (pun intended) something new for you and it just made its debut.

In “60-Second Smash,” Drew surprises fans at their homes with nothing but his cameraman Seth and a sledgehammer. He gives the homeowner one minute to smash anything they want in the house, and whatever gets demo’d, Drew will fix up and replace right there on the spot. Talk about a happy surprise!

In our first video, Drew surprises Nicole at her home—and she was shocked, to say the least. When Drew handed her the sledgehammer, she ran around the whole house, first to the kitchen, and then to the living room to ask her son Fletcher for his help picking out what to update. They finally decided on the bathroom vanity, which they’ve been meaning to replace for a while. (We must say, Nicole swung the sledgehammer pretty well for a first-timer!)

After demoing the old vanity, Drew’s contractor Sammy and their team at In N Out Construction came in to finish up the install. But, they found that the plumbing had been done illegally, and got to work quickly to fix the shoddy job and make things right. When Nicole finally saw her new vanity installed, she was thrilled—it was a huge bathroom upgrade from her and her family.

Now, Drew is headed to another fan’s home. We’re eager to see what they’ll smash and fix up this next time around! Keep up with the YouTube videos to find out, and see all the surprises in action. And make sure to let us know in the comments: If Drew showed up at your home with a sledgehammer, what would you smash up for him to replace?
