The season finale of Chasing the West brought us to places we’ve never seen before… Literally. Drew and Jonathan helped best friends Alex and Jake in their search for a homestead in the California foothills, touring 40-acre lots that have views as far as the eye can see; and helped Kate find her peace and solitude in an Arizona cowboy town right outside of Phoenix. With all the sights and wide-open land to take in, we can see why people are yearning for their own little piece of Western life. “You cannot beat the beauty of ranch life,” Jonathan says. “Waking up, seeing the mountains, seeing nature, seeing animals roaming through your property—you can actually smell how fresh and how clean your air is. It’s incredible. I miss it.”

For both Alex and Jake, their top priority is having land of their own—something that they don’t get much of in their current cul-de-sac and trailer setups. And for Kate and Lisa, they’re mainly looking for a space where Kate can finally put down roots. For so long, she’s been adventuring across the world, but she’s ready to find that perfect place to call home. They’re hoping that with Drew and Jonathan’s help, they can finally find their Western paradise.

jake and alex chasing the west

Alex and Jake are best friends, business partners, offroad gearheads, and now, Western dreamers. And together with their partners Kayla and Vanessa, they’re looking to start a homestead in the open mountain air of the California foothills. Alex and Vanessa have no kids and are currently living in the suburbs, while Jake and Kayla have two little ones and are living in a trailer while they look for their dream home. Together, the group of four want to beat the system and pool their resources to find an acreage they can share. With a combined $1M budget, they’re hoping for a ranch-style property near San Andreas, enough room for two separate houses on the property, with plenty of privacy and space for Alex and Jake’s workshop.

The Good, The Bad, and The View

40 acres | $769K

With treetops for miles and more open space than they could have dreamed, this property is a blank canvas for the two couples to reimagine however they’d like. There’s enough space to move both of Vanessa’s horses up from Florida; build the boys’ workshop; and renovate the second home for Alex and Vanessa. However, that’s a long list of to-dos, so they’re going to have to weigh their options.

Mountain of Dreams

22 acres | $649K

Just 10 mins from San Andreas, this property has a ton of potential. There’s a big hill on-site that could be the perfect space to build the second house and leave some room for privacy between the families, and there’s already a huge workshop built on the property. It needs a little work, and they’d have to fix up a few things before they get started, but having the structure already built is a huge plus. And, with groceries and schools close by, they wouldn’t have to worry about being too far out from the conveniences they need for their families.

The Big Kahuna

22 acres | $750K

This move-in ready property already comes equipped with the two households the crew is hoping for, plus a 10-stall horse stable and a 1,200-square-foot shop on-site. However, the two houses are very close, which isn’t ideal, especially when they’re hoping for a bit of privacy. That combined with the smaller shop are two road blocks that Jake and Kayla and Alex and Vanessa will have to think about before jumping in.

After all was said and done, the crew decided to go with the Mountain of Dreams. Two months in, and they’ve already completed plenty of updates. Their business is up and running, and there’s plenty of land for them to do what they love, whether that’s caring for the animals or riding their four-wheelers around the property. “Having it all feels like a million bucks,” Alex says.

lisa and kate chasing the west

Kate and Lisa have been best friends for around 15 years, and now, they’re searching for the perfect place for Kate to plant new roots. She’s dreaming of Cave Creek, Arizona, a laidback cowboy town that fits everything Kate wants out of her dream neighborhood. After her divorce, Kate realized that the city life she got used to wasn’t what she wanted—she dreamed of the wide-open land she grew up on. So, she brought along her friend Lisa to head out to the countryside to find Kate her new home. She’s been looking for a while now, but it seems like everything she loves is outside of her $700K budget. She’s hoping that with the Bros’ help, they can find that perfect fit.

Rugged Revival Ranch

1.17 acres | $625K | 3 bed/3 bath

This property has some nice amenities that are hard to come by in Cave Creek, like city water and solar panels to help cut energy costs. However, it’s definitely going to be a project for Kate to make the home fit her style. The bones are there, though—especially with the outdoor kitchen and horse arena and barn, so renovations would mainly be cosmetic.

Ready to Ride Ranch

1.14 acres | $700K | 3 bed/2 bath

Right at the top of Kate’s budget but with everything she wants on her checklist, this one is the definition of turn-key. It has a modern and newly renovated interior, as well as horse facilities, and beautiful mountain views. However, it is outside of the area that Kate was hoping for, and with water maintenance, it could easily climb up past what Kate is comfortable paying.

After thinking it through and talking it over with her best friend, Kate decided to put an offer on Ready to Ride Ranch. “I love this property. It’s my new sanctuary,” Kate says. She’s already begun caring for her horses and she couldn’t feel more fulfilled. Being able to start her horse rescue right away and immediately walk into a home she didn’t have to do any work gave Kate the sense of home she’s been seeking.

For some, ranch life is something they’ve always wanted; for others, it’s something they’ve only just realized they’re interested in; and other times, it’s a mix of divine timing. This week on Chasing the West, Drew and Jonathan are helping Vivian and her daughter Celeste, and Connecticut dreamers Angelina and Russell, find their dream ranches in the California countryside. For Vivian as well as Angelina and Russell, they’ve always loved being out in nature, but they’re coming from cities where it’s hard to find that peace. Recently though, both families have realized that their next chapter might be somewhere else. So, they’re making the move and crossing their fingers to find their little slice of ranch life paradise.

Drew and Jonathan are taking them on a journey to find the spot that feels like home and fits their unique needs. Vivian wants to start a horse sanctuary, whereas Angelina and Russell are searching for a wide-open space to raise their little ones and start up Russell’s new construction business. Out West, anything is possible—and the Bros are here to make sure that these folks’ dreams can come true… Of course, with some reality checks along the way. (Like, holding a chicken for the first time.) Come explore the properties and the stories behind these new ranch owners.

chasing the west episode 5 with vivian and her daughter celeste

Vivian has a big family. With five sisters and two daughters, her family is her life. And after losing her father a year ago, Vivian wants to be closer to her mother. So, she’s dreaming of making the move out West. Vivian is currently a makeup artist in Los Angeles, but her passion lies in helping horses. She has three right now, and they’re her life. She’s been boarding them outside of LA for years now, but wants to house them on her own property and start a horse sanctuary. Her ideal place to land is Agua Dulce. It’s just an hour away from LA, so her commute will be short, but it’s also a very horse-friendly town with that Western vibe that she’s craving. She’s looking for a property with three bedrooms and horse facilities on-site, with a budget of $1.1M. Her youngest daughter, Celeste, is coming along to help her find her dream ranch. Vivian has been searching for a while now, but since the area sells fast, she hasn’t had any luck. Hopefully, with the Drew and Jonathan’s help, she can secure her ideal horse ranch.

Mi Casa es Su Casa

2.8 acres | $880K | 4 bed/3 bath

Well under Vivian’s max budget, this Spanish-style ranch has all of the horse amenities she’s hoping for, including outdoor pens, a lean-to barn, and a round pen. The property is allotted 4 horses per 1 acre, so she also has the potential to house about 12 horses on-site. Though the inside of the house is pretty turn-key, it’s a little too modern for Vivian’s style.

Wild West Oasis

7 acres | $1.05M | 4 bed/3 bath

A 1950s dream, this home is a mash-up of additions that have been done over the past 70 years, but it flows together nicely to create a huge 4,300-square-foot layout complete with a private courtyard, a saloon-style bar and living area, and a pool in the yard—not to mention, 7 stalls for horses on the property. However, this would mean that Vivian has a lot of upkeep to do in order to maintain such a large property on her own.

The Cozy Corral

5 acres | $840K | 3 bed/2 bath

This property is a nice middle-ground between having a good amount of acreage without it being too intimidating. The only catch? Vivian would have to do some renovations, which includes building her own barn. There is a corral already built, and it is a working ranch, so she could immediately jump in with space for the horses. But that breezeway barn she wants will be its own project.

After talking it over with Celeste, Vivian decided on The Cozy Corral. Vivian’s mother has already moved in, and they’ve begun to fill the space with family, horses, and memories. It offers everything she wants in a home, and there wasn’t as much work that needed to be put into the house as they first thought. Obviously, the barn is the first priority on their list of additions! “It’s my dream come true,” Vivian says, “And I can’t wait to make it a safe place for horses.”

chasing the west episode 5 with angelina and her husband russell

Angelina and Russell have moved across the country to California from Connecticut with their two little ones, with a dream of living in their own home on the range. While in the city, they found themselves inside most of the time—which isn’t what they wanted, for themselves or their kids. But in the concrete jungle, they didn’t find the outdoors to feel as magical and rewarding as open land. So, they’re moving to California, not only to be closer to Russell’s family, but also with the hopes of reconnecting with nature and the outdoors. They have their sights set on Jackson, a Gold Rush town that seems to be the perfect combination of small town charm and modern convenience. Angelina and Russell want at least 2 acres and space for a shop or garage for Russell’s construction business, with a budget of $450K.

Ready Ridge Ranch

2 acres | $585K | 3 bed/2.5 bath

Above their budget but checking off all their boxes, this property offers everything: privacy, proximity to town, a three-car garage plus a shed, and it’s completely turn-key. They wouldn’t have to do much work at all to make it their own, outside of building a larger space for Russell’s shop. But Angelina was hoping for more land, and she wants plenty of space for farm animals.

Whispering Woods Ranch

10 acres | $400K | 2 bed/2 bath

Angelina wanted more land, and she definitely gets that with this property! It also has a huge shop on site that can be used solely for Russell’s business. However, it’s about 30 minutes outside of Jackson, and since Angelina doesn’t drive, she is concerned about cases of emergency when Russell isn’t home, and the lack of convenience into town. The interior definitely needs some updating as well, but because it comes in under budget, they have the wiggle room they need to make the changes. There’s a lot of potential here.

After mulling it over, Angelina and Russell decided to go with Whispering Woods Ranch. “There’s a lot of work, but it’ll be what we want, and what we want to build together,” Russell says. They went back and forth between the two for a while, but ultimately, Whispering Woods felt more like home.

Kelly and Sara and Melissa and Christopher are at a crossroads on this episode of Chasing the West. They have to decide: What are they willing to risk for their dream life? Kelly and Sara are hoping to escape the city to start their own horse training business outside of Dallas, while Melissa and Christopher want to move their family to the country for more peace and open space. But with so much to discuss—like budget, must-haves, work and personal life—they need to think about what’s worth it and what they can give up when it comes to this new adventure.

And they can’t do it alone. So they’re calling on Drew and Jonathan for their expertise—not just in real estate, but also in horse ranch living and property maintenance. There’s a lot that goes in to taking care of an acreage, and when it comes to these markets, they need advice from the two who know it best. So, Drew and Jonathan are helping them find their dream properties, and dusting off their cowboy boots to make it happen.

chasing the west with kelly and sara for episode 6

Kelly first met Sara while she was looking for a new facility for her Friesian horse, Leo. The two clicked immediately, and have since decided to start a business together. Sara is a professional horse trainer and a dressage Olympian originally from Italy, and Kelly is dreaming of owning her own equestrian business. So, they’re risking it all in hopes of running a successful horse training business together in Texas. Kelly needs the property to be within driving distance of Dallas, since her marketing job is located there and many of her dressage clients will be coming from the city. With a budget of $2M, Kelly and Sara are hoping for 8 – 15 acres of land, with a barn and arena for their horse business as well as a move-in ready 3-bedroom home on the property. They’re aiming for Princeton, Texas, as you get a lot of space in the area while still being close enough to Dallas.

Casita Bonita

10 acres | $1.55M | 3 bed/3 bath

The property itself is beautiful—with a sprawling 10-acre landscape and plenty of room to expand and build the barns and arena exactly how they’d like. There’s also a casita on-site that’s perfect for events or a client lounge. But the interior of the home on the property is very rustic, and it doesn’t fit Kelly’s style at all. Luckily, it’s just cosmetic, so she wouldn’t have to do much heavy lifting to get the home where she wants it to be.

Equine Divine

9.53 acres | $1.94M | 4 bed/3 bath

Though this property is at the top of their budget, Kelly and Sara would be able to start up their business immediately, as there’s already a barn, stalls, and arena built and ready to use. Plus, the house that Kelly would be living in is much more her style than the previous one, with more modern touches. However, the house is very close to the horse facilities, which isn’t ideal. And with the high price tag, there isn’t much room for renovations or changes.

Kelly and Sara ultimately decided to go with Equine Divine. It had everything they needed to get started on their dressage business, Fortebella, and at two months in, they’ve begun to make a home here on the property. They’re building up their client list already, and planning a bunch of different events for new members.

chasing the west with melissa and christopher for episode 6

Christopher is an air traffic controller, and Melissa runs her own homeschooling business. Together with their three boys, the family wants to move into a space where they can grow. With horses, four dogs, 13 chickens, and four ducks, it’s safe to say their current home isn’t cutting it. “With the hustle and bustle of the kids and the job, it gets overwhelming,” Christopher says. “So tranquility is very important for us—just be able to step out, take a breath, and be away from it all.” Christopher and Melissa are looking to Palmdale, California for their new home. It’s a nice blend of quiet, open space, but you’re not too far away from the city, either. They want at least 2 acres, with room for all the animals, and proximity to Christopher’s job for under $950K.

The ’70s Dust Up

2.6 acres | $850K | 4 bed/3 bath

This first property is one that Melissa and Chris actually found themselves, but they want the Bros’ opinion on it to see whether or not it’d actually be a good investment. It’s definitely a fixer-upper, but it’s also extremely close to Chris’s job, and it has the acreage they want to house their animals. Drew and Jonathan think that if they’re ready to put in the work, and the seller is willing to come down in price, it could be a great place for them.

The Desert Rose Oasis

2.5 acres | $1.1M | 3 bed/2 bath

Just down the road from The ’70s Dust Up, this property is a bit more move-in ready and much different than other properties they’ve seen online. There’s lots of trees and gardens, and beautiful foliage surrounding it. However, it is far above their budget at $1.1M, and even though it has everything they want inside and out, Chris and Melissa would have to think about whether or not the convenience outweighs the price.

The Far Flung Frontier

2.1 acres | $640K | 4 bed/4 bath

This one is pretty much a completely blank canvas. There aren’t any trees, buildings, or plants anywhere on the property, and it’s basically just a house on an empty lot. Plus, it’s about a 40-minute commute to Chris’s job. However, with so much room in their budget to work with here, it could be the perfect place to make their homestead exactly what they want. The home is relatively new, too, with beautiful modern finishes and a nice layout, so they wouldn’t have to do anything to the house upon move-in.

After negotiating with the seller on The ’70s Dust Up, the two just weren’t on the same page in terms of value. So, Christopher and Melissa thought that instead of buying a property they’d have to put hundreds of thousands of dollars into to make it perfect for them, why not just go with the property that has everything they want already? In the end, they went with The Desert Rose Oasis, and they’re over the moon. The kids are loving their new home, and even though it’s taking time to get acclimated to the amount of work that goes into a ranch property, the family couldn’t be happier.

Drew and Jonathan are helping two couples find their first homes on Chasing the West. Jacqui and Vincent have been living on park ranger housing for years, and Kayla and Gabriel are hoping to buy their very first property together, so both couples are hoping for a place they can finally call their own. Jacqui and Vince love being in nature and have enjoyed working in national parks together. And Kayla and Gabriel are true Westerners as well, both with careers working with animals and horses. They’re definitely used to the lifestyle that country living provides, but they need help finding their perfect-fit property.

The Bros know a thing or two about real estate, as we know—so both couples are eager to have their guidance while searching for their new home. This week, they’re traveling to Calaveras County, California, and Pilot Point, Texas, and both towns offer plenty of gorgeous country views and lifestyles, but with slightly different vibes. Calaveras County has more natural forest and waterfront land, whereas Pilot Point has more wide-open space and a booming horse culture. Together, they’re hoping to make their dreams a reality with the help of Drew and Jonathan.

jacqui and vincent in chasing the west episode 5

California natives Vincent and Jacqui have been married for 34 years, and have worked side by side the whole time. They were in the restaurant service industry, real estate, and even became park rangers together. They’re currently in state park housing, but because Jacqui has already retired and Vince is set to end his ranger contract soon, they’ll no longer be able to live in the facilities, and need to search for a new place to call home. They’re hoping to live somewhere in Calaveras County. Jacqui loves the town of Murphys, which she says is the perfect mix of small town charm with easy access to nature. However, she says the market has been very volatile, and it’s been difficult to find the right property for their budget of $600K. Hopefully, with the Bros’ real estate expertise and knowledge of the area, Jacqui and Vince can find exactly what they’re looking for.

Up in the Clouds

23 acres | $1.15M | 4 bed/3 bath

This first property is one that Jacqui actually requested! It’s about 15 minutes outside of Murphys, and it’s what they’re considering their “inspiration ranch”—that is, it has everything they’re looking for… Minus the price tag. She says that if the Bros can help them find a place like this, give or take a few things, they’d have what they’re hoping for.

Ranger’s Peak

19 acres | $599K | 2 bed/2 bath

This property still has beautiful views, even more gorgeous than the inspiration property. It needs some updates on the inside, but it does have the open concept that Jacqui wanted. However, with just 2 bedrooms, she’s concerned about having enough space for her wellness business she wants to start, as well as for her family when they visit.

Enchanted Hollow

5.5 acres | $555K | 2 bed/2 bath

While this one doesn’t have waterfront views, it does have gorgeous, sprawling forest landscape that the couple loves. Plus, it’s only a 10-minute drive to Murphys. It’s a prefab home from the 90s, which isn’t ideal for Vincent, who was looking to retire in a more custom build. However, the charm inside the home and on the property is abundant, and there’s a separate guest house that’s perfect for family or Jacqui’s wellness business.

After discussing everything, Jacqui and Vince decided on Enchanted Hollow. “I think it’s perfect,” Vince says. They’ve already started a very successful vegetable garden and chicken coop, and they feel at home here. “The tranquility, the nature—it’s just incredible,” Jacqui says.

kayla and gabriel in chasing the west episode 5

Kayla and Gabriel have been living in Pilot Point, Texas for a while, which is prime horse country. Right now, they’re in a 400-square-foot house on a ranch, and they’re more than ready for more space. With two dogs and a horse, it’s safe to say they feel cramped. They’re looking to buy their very first home together. Gabriel is a farrier (aka a horseshoer), and Kayla is a chiropractor for both people and animals, so they’re hoping to have enough space to do both of their jobs on the property. They’re looking for a place with about 3 – 7 acres, with horse facilities and outbuildings, for around $400K.

Saddle Up

3.3 acres | $294K | 3 bed/2 bath

Well under their max budget, this ranch has a great footprint inside the main house, but there aren’t any outbuildings on the property, so they’d have to make some additions to get that started. Luckily, with the amount they’re saving, they have that leftover cash to work with. The big question is: Do they want to put in the time and construction costs to build their business barn, or do they want to be able to have that right away?

Ridin’ High

3.7 acres | $325K | 3 bed/2 bath

The main house on this property is a mobile home, but it’s still much bigger than the space they have now, especially since it’s a double-wide. However, it is definitely dated, and since mobile homes usually require more upkeep than a standard home, the costs do add up. On the flip side, with the rancher buildings and shop garage already built on the property, they could move in and start running their businesses immediately.

In the end, Kayla and Gabriel decided on Ridin’ High. It offered them the on-site facilities they needed for their business, with the wiggle room to make updates to the buildings and the home over time. “We’re totally living the lifestyle we were hoping to live,” Kayla says. “The horse is loving it, and so are we.”

Rob and Mason and Sydney and Karsten are in similar boats: They both want more space and to live out that country life, but neither of the couples have ever done something like that before. This week’s episode of Chasing the West follows these two sets of Western dreamers as they navigate the process of finding and starting a homestead—from gardening to animal care and property upkeep—and discover what all goes into real ranch life.

Both families are coming from more suburban neighborhoods, but they’re tired of living right on top of their neighbors. They want their kids to have the space to run around and play, as well as the room to start ranching. There are drawbacks and upsides to each of the properties they visit with Drew and Jonathan, and no matter what, they’ll have to make sacrifices. It could be the perfect property, but maybe there’s a ton of renovations to get done. Or it’s completely turn-key, but the price is over-budget. Whatever they choose, the Bros are here to help guide them on Chasing the West.

rob and mason as seen in chasing the west season 1 episode 4

Mason and Rob have never lived in the country before, but they want to set their sights on something new. With two kids, two parakeets, three dogs, and seven baby chickens, they’re basically running a farm already! They currently live in the suburbs in Santa Clarita, California, but they don’t love being so close to their neighbors. “My dream for this ranch is to just finally have the room for our kids to go outside and play without me having to worry about them, and finally just have as many chickens as I could possibly fit, and maybe some other animals,” Mason says. Plus, Rob’s event rentals company is booming, and they need more room to expand their inventory.

Easy Does It

5.3 acres | $1.2M | 4 bed/3 bath

Just 40 minutes outside of Santa Clarita, this property has a ton of potential. It’s set up to eventually be an event space, and there’s room for Rob’s trailers and warehouse. It fits their overall budget of $1.6M, with a big chunk of cash leftover they can use for renovations on the house, and to build more structures on the property.

The Whole Shebang

5.1 acres | $1.8M | 4 bed/4 bath

This one is completely move-in ready, from the inside out all the way onto the grounds themselves. There’s a barn, stalls for horses, and space for a warehouse. And the inside of the main home is beautiful—recently renovated with modern amenities and finishes, including a pool. The only catch? The price tag.

After getting the property down to $1.7M, Mason and Rob decided to go with The Whole Shebang. It had everything they needed, and it was completely move-in ready, which took a lot of stress off their plate—especially since they’ll be adjusting to ranch life for the first time. Not only has the home been a great investment for their family life, but it’s also been a fantastic investment for Rob’s business. “We knew that getting the Brothers involved was going to help us find exactly what we were looking for,” Rob says.

Karsten is a second generation real estate agent. As he grew into the career, it blossomed into a full-blown business of his own. Sydney decided to get licensed as well, and now they run a team together. They have three children, and the family of five currently lives in Ahwatukee, Arizona, just outside of Phoenix. But Sydney and Karsten are looking for a life outside of the cookie-cutter suburban neighborhood. Sydney dreams of homesteading and growing her own food, while Karsten wants plenty of land for the kids. Though they’re excited for the journey ahead, they need Drew and Jonathan’s help to find the right place for them and soak in all the advice they have to offer about ranch living.

Dome Sweet Dome

1.05 acres | $839K | 4 bed/3 bath

This dome style build is about 45 minutes from their current neighborhood of Ahwatukee. The outdoor entertaining potential is amazing, with an ADU, hot tub, and rooftop patio with great views—plus plenty of space for a vegetable garden on top of the dome. The dome style would take some getting used to, as the lack of windows and curved walls aren’t for everyone, but it does fit their overall budget of $900K.

Starter Homestead

1.09 acres | $949K | 3 bed/2 bath

Lush and green, this ranch is perfect for the vegetable garden farm they’re looking for. The house itself has a good amount of charm, and there’s some unused space inside to turn into whatever they want, as the house is only partially renovated. However, it backs up directly behind active train tracks, which is obviously not ideal for a growing family.

Olde Timey Saloon

2.5 acres | $575K | 4 bed/2 bath

With more acreage and more of an authentic country ranch feel, this property has the rustic vibe that Karsten is looking for, but it needs some work. Luckily, the price is right, so they have a lot of wiggle room to make it exactly what they want. With that being said, Karsten and Sydney haven’t lived through renovations before, which makes Sydney a bit nervous. It’d be a whole new ballgame for them.

After some negotiations, Sydney and Karsten were able to get the Starter Homestead down to $915K, and officially made it their home. The size of the property is perfect, and Sydney is so excited for her new garden to bloom. And their children are happy, too. “The kids love it, and honestly, they spend more time outside than they do inside!” Sydney says.

On this week’s episode of Chasing the West, Drew and Jonathan are helping two city couples ease into a whole new way of life as ranchers. They’ll help Brandon and Chelsey and Sherry and Nico find their perfect plots of land to start their new journey ahead, but the Bros are also there for a reality check: Ranch life isn’t all cowboy boots and mountain range views. It takes a lot of work to take care of your property, and all that comes with it, whether that’s horses; chickens; crops; or just maintaining the grounds themselves.

With big dreams to shift their lifestyles, these couples have one thing in common for sure: They’re ready to get out of the city. But they have some big risks involved and their careers on the line, so they’ll have to be certain that this is the right move for them. After all, they’ve never done this before! Luckily, with Drew and Jonathan’s help, they’re one step closer to making dreams a reality.

brandon and chelsey from chasing the west season 1, episode 3

Chelsey and Brandon are craving more open space. After leaving TV news and starting their own business, the couple is ready to leave Phoenix for good to officially move out to Cave Creek, Arizona. It’s closer to The Stamp Mill, the historic space they’re renovating with friends to turn into a venue, and it also has properties with plenty of space for horse stables for boarding. With a budget of $1.5M, Chelsey and Brandon are hoping to find their dream Western oasis.

Deep Pockets Ranch

3.97 acres | $1.75M | 3 bed/3 bath

This property has everything that Chelsey and Brandon are hoping for, and more. On top of all their checklist items (3 bedrooms, a pool, a horse stable, 4 acres, and just up the road from downtown Cave Creek). However, the price reflects that.

The Big Vista

3.23 acres | $1.1M | 3 bed/2 bath

Backed onto the Tonto National Forest, this property is far below their max budget—but it comes at the cost of proximity. It’s about a half hour from Cave Creek, but this one has lots of the amenities they’re looking for, including the horse stables.

Farmhouse Mile

3.2 acres | $1.4M | 3 bed/2 bath

Just 20 minutes outside of Cave Creek, this property isn’t as secluded as the other two. Neighbors’ houses are closer, but the property itself is stunning. There’s a wraparound porch, a newly-built barn, and modern finishes inside that make it totally move-in ready.

Chelsey and Brandon decided to go for the Farmhouse Mile. It offered them everything they need, it was the right price, and just close enough to Cave Creek—it was the Goldilocks of the properties they saw!

sherry and nico from chasing the west season 1, episode 3

Currently living in Dallas, Texas, Sherry and Nico are craving a slower life. Sherry is a hospice nurse while Nico is a chef, and their wishlist items are a bit different. Sherry needs to be close enough to Dallas since she’ll still be working in the city, while Nico needs to be close to her restaurant. And while Sherry wants more land and more animals, Nico wants less of both. To find that perfect balance between country life and commute time, the Bros are showing the couple properties in Terrell, Texas. They have a max budget of $575K, and they’re ready to find their dream ranch.

Orchard Paradise

3.81 acres | $565K | 3 bed/2 bath

This property is already set up as a pecan farm, which is super helpful for Nico’s business. However, it definitely needs some renovations done in order fit the needs of both Nico and Sherry. It’s a small structure, and even with the second property on site for Nico’s business, it would still be a squeeze.

Playin’ Chicken

5.2 acres | $537K | 3 bed/2 bath

With more acreage and a working ranch on site, this property is a stark contrast from their current way of life. The house is much larger, but the kitchen layout needs some renovating for Nico’s business. However, there’s plenty of room for animals and chickens, as well as an on-property apiary.

After going back and forth between their two options, they decided to go with ranch number two: Playin’ Chicken. “After visiting the other pecan orchard, it really made us want our own dream—and so here we are,” Nico says. After buying the property, Nico’s niece actually moved in with them too. Together, they’re building a beautiful ranch life and learning the ropes of being farmhands every day.

This week’s episode of Chasing the West followed two families with some very different needs. While one couple (Ina and Hamed) moves from a big city to their first ranch property with their son, the other couple (Pauline and Jim) takes their horse training roots from Canada all the way down to Arizona for a large-scale move into a whole new country. Between the two families, there’s a lot of needs to consider and a ton to discuss before making the decision.

Ina and Hamed have made a life for themselves in the big city, but they’re craving a work-life balance they can’t find in the concrete jungle. And Pauline and Jim are hoping that their horse training business will thrive in this new environment. Before they can make any decisions, though, they called on the Bros to help them make this life-changing decision.

Ina and Hamed are two city slickers from San Francisco. Ina grew up in the mountains, and Hamed was raised in the countryside. They found one another in the city, fell in love, and started a family there. But they’ve been craving the rural land ever since they left. Now, they’re finally able to make that dream a reality—but they need the Bros help to find the perfect place to call home. They’ve been visiting Murphys, California for years now, and they love the vibe of the old Gold Rush town. “When we visit Murphys, we feel like we’re at home,” says Ina. The couple is hoping for a better work-life balance, enough space for a venue on the property, and 5 bedrooms. However, they don’t even know where to start, and with a budget of just $700K, they need Drew and Jonathan to come in and help them on their search.

ina and hamed from chasing the west

The Eagle’s Nest

$650K | 6.75 acres | 4 bed/2 bath

15 minutes outside of Murphys, Ina and Hamed would have a hilltop property that sits on land just shy of 7 acres—enough space to comfortably fit an event space, with a breathtaking view of the country. However, the house is slightly smaller than they hoped for, and there’s not a lot of opportunity to expand the property.

The Golden Goose

$740K | 5.3 acres | 3 bed/3 bath with 2 bed unit

This property literally made their jaws drop! It has a gorgeous hosting space for events and weddings, and the land itself is beautiful. The house definitely needs a little work, and it’s also right off of a main road, so there’s a lot of traffic that runs past. It also sits fairly high above their budget.

The Rough Diamond

$495K | 6.5 acres | 3 bed/2 bath

This one will definitely take a little more elbow grease than the others. The interior is small, and there isn’t a nice flow inside. Essentially, it’s a blank slate that they’d need to build and rebuild in order to make it into the property they’re dreaming of. But, with the low cost and the open space available to build whatever they want, it leaves them more room for customization.

Ina and Hamed ultimately decided to go with The Rough Diamond. The price was right, and now, they’re able to create their perfect homestead. Slowly but surely, they’re making their way through renovations and plans to build their dream event space.

Currently living in Canada, Pauline and Jim are busy running a horse training facility and raising four children, but they’ve been setting their sights on a new horizon in Scottsdale, Arizona. “Scottsdale is the pinnacle of places to live for horse training if that’s what you do for a living,” Jim says. “My entire life is engulfed in horses, horse training—and we compete.” And his constant traveling between Canada and Arizona has become a headache they just don’t want to deal with anymore. These two are hoping for a move-in ready home with space for horse facilities and at least four bedrooms, with a budget of $1.2M. Pauline also homeschools their kids, so they need to have enough space for their studies and their family time.

pauline and jim in episode 2 of chasing the west with the property brothers

Homestead Haven

$799K | 2.5 acres | 3 bed/3 bath

Filled with gorgeous natural light, this haven has some of the amenities that Pauline and Jim are hoping for, but not all. The view is breathtaking, and there’s plenty of space inside. But there’s only one corral on the property, so Jim would have to build his stables from the ground up.

The Big Ticket

$1.2M | 4.6 acres | 3 bed/2 bath

This Big Ticket property is beautiful, with enough space inside for home schooling and more, and it’s move-in ready. There’s a pool outside, which is especially great for the kids, and there’s also a large arena and an eight-stall stable. However, at the very top of their budget, it feels like a big risk.

In the end, Pauline and Jim decided on to take the risk and go with The Big Ticket. And they couldn’t be happier! “I don’t know that we could even imagine how cool life’s become,” Jim says. Their family is so happy with their decision, and they’re thriving on their new homestead in Arizona.

Did you see the premiere episode of Chasing the West? If not, what are you waiting for?! Streaming on Discovery+ and HBO Max, Drew and Jonathan’s new show is full of fresh adventures, as they help folks navigate ranch life for the first time. In the premiere episode, we follow two couples, Sarah and Thomas and Tawny and Miguel, as they try to find their dream homes in the countryside. But the two couples have very different needs. While Sarah and Thomas are dreaming of an expansive Western homestead for their family of four, Tawny and Miguel are hoping to own their very first home with enough room to set up a workshop for refurbishing classic trucks and trailers.

With the help of the Bros, they’re hoping to find their forever homes under the Western sky, where they’ll have room to grow and space to breathe. But before they can officially start their ranch life dreams, they’re going to have to find the perfect place that checks off all their boxes—and that won’t happen without at least a little bit of compromise. No matter what, though, one thing’s for sure: Chasing the West is going to be one rootin’ tootin’ good time! So, grab your cowboy hats and let’s take a ride to the west.

chasing the west premiere couple sarah and thomas smiling in front of their pool on their new property in Val Alstyn, Texas

Dreaming of a property where they can create a family homestead, Sarah and Thomas are ready to move out of their suburban town of Aubrey and look toward a new horizon in Val Alstyne, Texas. There, they’re looking forward to small town living and the perfect setting for their children to grow up. Thomas wants to work with a budget of $1M – 1.2M, but Sarah’s willing to go up to $2M for their family of four. She wants a home with a castle-like vibe that isn’t too far from town or neighbors, and Thomas “just wants a nice, quaint home on a lot of land.”

Lone Star Lookout

$1.9M | 18.5 acres | 4 bed/3 bath

Just a 10-minute drive to town, this property actually has three buildings: a main house, guest house, and an event space. It’s exactly what Sarah wants, but Thomas is hoping for a little more acreage and something less in price.

The Sixty Spread

$2.3M | 60 acres | 4 bed/3.5 bath

At 5,700 square feet, this home provides the space inside that she wants, as well as the space outside that Thomas wants. There are no other buildings on the property, though, and the price tag is higher than they’re hoping for.

Golden Grit Ranch

$1.475M | 16 acres | 4 bed/5 bath

A wraparound porch and a classic ranch-style house on a hill, the Golden Grit property embraces Western style beautifully. However, there’s definitely some renovations to be done, and Sarah’s hesitant about it because of how much they’ve had to do in their current home.

After talking it over and compromising, Sarah and Thomas decided to go with The Sixty Spread. Thomas got the land he wanted, and Sarah got her castle. They’re so happy to call this place home, and in the end, it was all worth it.

chasing the west premiere couple tawny and miguel smiling on their new property in Agua Dulce, California

Currently in the city of Mission Hills in the San Fernando Valley of California, Tawny and Miguel are ready to escape the hectic city life and finally find their retreat. They love refurbishing classic trucks, and the two want space to spread out and escape the concrete jungle. Right now, they’re renting, so they want to make sure they get everything on their list with their very first home. The thing they’re searching for most is land, and they’re hoping to find it in Agua Dulce, California within their budget of $850K.

Mountainside Hideout

$830K | 2 acres | 3 bed/3 bath

Secluded and move-in ready, this ranch is just 8 minutes from town, and sits on a nice amount of land for Tawny and Miguel’s needs. Along with the main house, there’s also a detached bedroom outside that’s great for hosting out-of-town guests, and a shop that would be perfect for refurbishing their classic trucks and trailers.

Blacktop Acres

$750K | 4.45 acres | 3 bed/2 bath

This one has more land but also more to renovate. It’s right off the highway, which isn’t ideal, especially since they’re trying to escape the city noise. However, with the commercial zoning on-site, Tawny and Miguel would have everything they need to be able to open up a shop on their own property. Plus, the views from the backyard are absolutely gorgeous, and with twice the land, they have room to grow.

After thinking it through and talking it over, Tawny and Miguel decided to put an offer in on Blacktop Acres, and they’re so happy with their decision. Though the house isn’t as big as they wanted, they use the outdoor space far more. Miguel built a bar underneath the deck, and the two are getting to work building the workshop, too.
