When Tenny bought her house ten years ago, she loved that it was close to her mom and cousins, and the layout and small kitchen suited her bachelorette lifestyle. Five years later, she met her match, Lyle, at a tailgate party. These two college football fanatics fell in love and tied the knot.

Tenny and Lyle were excited to “marry their two families together,” but they needed a game-changing reno to make the house work for their ideal lifestyle. We totally revamped the main living areas, creating open sightlines and better functionality so this expanded family can all feel at home and continue to live (and party) happily for years to come.

Spanish Style

Tenny found the old brick fireplace to be an eyesore that blocked their backyard. We shifted the TV to a neighboring wall and redid the fireplace in a Spanish stucco style. Now they can enjoy this feature without sacrificing their great outdoor view.

An Entertainer’s Kitchen

Tenny has a large family and would like to take over for her mother when it comes to hosting. We installed two massive islands and added a walk-in pantry so she wouldn’t have to store extra items in her garage anymore.

For the Boys

Whenever Lyle’s son, Ryan, visited, he stayed in a purple guest bedroom that doubled as Lyle’s home office. This didn’t fit either guy’s style, so we swapped out the purple for a more masculine color palette and gave Lyle a proper desk where he could work.

Emillie and Bill’s dream was to find a backyard farm right near the city—and they finally got it! But with a baby on the way, they could no longer endure the home’s impractical layout. From the tight, cramped kitchen to the front door that wasn’t even in the front, there were too many quirks keeping them from focusing on their beautiful outdoor space.

Modern Luxury

The new front door opens right into the kitchen, so it was important to make a statement. From the gorgeous, new island to the beautiful farmhouse sink, it has all the luxuries of a modern kitchen without sacrificing any of the house’s rural charm.

Bright and Beautiful

Emillie and Bill wanted their home to feel clean, but not sterile. We chose a light hardwood and included plenty of wood tones and comfy seating to make sure the space was bright and welcoming.

Cozy Dining

We installed banquet seating right off the newly refaced and shortened fireplace. Not only will they be able to host friends and family by a cozy fire, but there’s extra storage tucked away in the bench.

Design Highlights

Coming Together

Previously, John and Lynn’s living room arrangements were split between the media center in one corner and the fireplace in another. We brought both features together against one wall so that the family has a united hub they can gather around.

Clarity Through Compromise

Lynn likes modern, while John prefers traditional and blue colors. We found a compromise by including different elements like wood accents and a blue-gray backsplash that managed to incorporate both their tastes.

The Great Outdoors

The beautiful environment outside is what drew the couple to this home in the first place, but the patio was unlevel and the pergola was falling apart. We spruced up the deck so now it’s a beautiful and safe place where the family can hang out.

When they found a house on a hill with stunning views and a short commute to work, Brian and Lily knew it was their forever home. It had plenty of room to grow into, which was ideal since they planned to start a family.  But the unusual and choppy main floor layout was getting in the way.

Design Highlights

No Place Like Home

The biggest problem Brian and Lily had with their living room was that it didn’t really reflect their personalities. We updated the fireplace with some Spanish-style tile and brought in treasured pieces like their piano to create a warm and inviting environment where they can entertain guests.

Freedom and Function

Their biggest dream during this renovation was to finally open up their cramped kitchen. Previous owners had tried some changes that weren’t up to code, so we had to go back and fix a lot of the structural issues left behind. But once we were done, Brian and Lily had all the function and flow they had been sorely needing.

Sit Back and Relax

There was so much space once we opened things up that we even had room to include a cozy breakfast nook. Every day, they can make their coffee, sit back, and enjoy their wonderful view.

Design Highlights

Modern and Organic

The kitchen was isolated and cut off from the rest of the house, so our first step was to take down the wall between it and the living room. The added exposure now helps show off their new sage green kitchen cabinets and polished quartz counters.

Shooting the Breeze

Because the original dining room was so far from the kitchen (and because Matthew loves to shoot pool), we decided to turn the space into a classy game room. As a treat, we also refurbished their heirloom pool table to ensure the entire space was polished and modern.

Home and Heritage

For the living room, we focused on getting rid of the dated items, such as the 80s-style sectional, while keeping and highlighting heritage pieces like Matthew’s grandma’s custom cabinet. We also restored the stone fireplace and added a wooden mantel to display family photos.
