Popular home design styles shift and change just as any trend cycle does. It’s the intersection of the crossroads between culture, media, and the trend pendulum. The science behind trend cycling and style predictions (yes, there is a science to it!) is based off of quantitative and qualitative analytics, cultural and environmental research, and historical data. All of these details tell a story about the soon-to-be popular colors, patterns, styles, and more.

In 2024, interior designers predicted a rise in warm-toned palettes and patterns that contrasted the stark white era of years prior. The 2025 colors of the year leaned into this even more, with darker, moodier shades taking center stage to provide the rich depth we were searching for. And now, in many 2026 Color of the Year predictions, we see a shift into dusty, muted colors that instantly romanticize a room with layered depth.

But it’s not just every 365 days that popular tones rise and fall. We see it each month as we pass through seasonal cycles, too. Color is nuanced. Every shade has a different impact. Deep aubergine might make a space feel more intimate than plum. Chartreuse and army green offer two starkly different styles. The same goes for pumpkin orange and burnt sienna. We were inspired by this, and decided to take a deeper look at color trend forecasting to bring you our Color of the Month. Every four weeks, we’ll discuss a new hue that we see embodying the essence of that 30-day period. Keep reading to explore these stylish shades and see how you can incorporate them into your home design.

Spring is springing oh-so-soon, and what better way to welcome the season than with the pop of color we’ve been waiting for? For March’s Color of the Month, we found inspiration through soft florals, comfortable fabrics, and the promise of April showers to come—bringing Pistachio into view. We spoke to our in-house trend expert and SVP of Creative and Design, Elizabeth Garcia, about her take on Pistachio, and where she sees the trend headed this month, and into the season to come. “Landscapes, botanicals and plantopia-inspired colors and textures will be key for this trend,” she says. “Hues range from soft sage to deep olive, and styles are balanced between refined and elegant and cozy and casual, with modern touches.”

Temps are still as cold as ever, but there’s romance in the air as we begin shedding our winter blues (or dreaming about it, at least!). Pinks and reds are the usual shades to mark the season of love, and this February, we’re leaning into the calmness of Pink Frost. Like pale pink icing, this hue brings softness and warmth into our homes to keep us cozy during the shortest month of the year. This playful blushing color can make a bold statement against rich, darker tones of moss and navy blue, or complement softer tones like sage and caramel.

KitchenAid’s 2026 Color of the Year is Spearmint, a bright and juicy hue that aims to add contrast and energy to your cooking space. This minty tone feels fresh and exciting, and makes for an especially bold look for the year ahead. “For this year’s color, we were driven by a desire to refresh our senses and find a moment of clarity,” says Brittni Pertijs, Lead Color, Material & Finish Designer at KitchenAid. “This color breathes life into a space, filling it with a soothing yet invigorating energy.”

IKEA is celebrating pops of unexpected color for 2026. Their Color of the Year, Rebel Pink, is bold, fun, and playful—a hue we’re excited to embrace. According to IKEA’s 2026 style guide, “We took a deep dive into macro trends in design, fashion, and culture, specifically how these things come to life in our homes. It’s not about what’s trending, it’s about how color can transform a space, evoke emotion, and reflect the way we live. [Rebel Pink] is a bold neutral and our way to energize your everyday aesthetic without compromising our commitment to Scandinavian simplicity.”

Pantone aims for its Cloud Dancer hue to evoke a sense of peace, renewal, and spatiousness. According to Pantone’s website, Cloud Dancer was chosen as a representation of quiet reflection and calm focus: “With its expansive presence, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer invites a space where function and feeling intertwine to build atmospheres of serenity and spaciousness, providing a refuge of visual cleanliness that inspires well-being and lightness.”

Not only did Etsy announce their gorgeous Patina Blue as their 2026 color of the year—for the first time, they also released a texture of the year: Washed Linen. Together, the two make up the trends predicted to explode this coming year. In Etsy’s announcement, “Patina blue is one of those shades that just instantly makes you exhale. Inspired by copper’s natural aging process, it embodies the quiet magic of change and the way materials evolve as they’re lived-in and loved. The hue reflects a growing appreciation for pieces that wear in, not out—which helps explain why searches for “blue copper” have surged more than 3x. Patina blue brings a calm confidence to any space, whether your style leans more modern, vintage-inspired, or somewhere in between.”

For their 2026 Color of the Year, Benjamin Moore has decided on Silhouette AF-655. “The connection between fashion and interiors has always been a source of inspiration but this year in particular, we’ve noticed a renewed interest in suiting and classic silhouettes; the resurgence of timeless pieces; and the growing interest in the brown color family,” said Andrea Magno, director, color marketing & design at Benjamin Moore. “Silhouette embodies these qualities with its depth and luxurious blend of burnt umber and delicate charcoal undertones. Like a perfectly tailored suit, this hue has the versatility and softness to bring a space from expected to exceptional.”

Divine Damson is a nutty, chocolate-plum color that can transform a room into a show-stopping design. According to the Graham & Brown site: “A perfect deep damson shade, the Color of the Year 2026 is a timeless and versatile color that suits a variety of styles and environments. The dark damson color evokes a sense of elegance, luxury and sophistication.” Alongside their Color of the Year, explore their Design of the Year (Eternal Weave, a whimsical print that mixes natural and mystical designs) and Mural of the Year (Eternal City, inspired by the Pink City of Jaipur) on their site, too.

Grounded and muddy, Coffee Bean is the perfect addition to the home that aims to create a warm atmosphere. “With its rich, earthy depth, Krylon 2026 Color of the Year, Coffee Bean, lays a harmonious foundation for projects that echo the beauty of nature,” said Lisbeth Parada, Color Marketing Manager at Krylon. Use the spray paint for a DIY project, or incorporate the versatile color in small touches throughout the home and yard.

Dunn-Edwards has chosen a muted green hue as their marker for 2026: Midnight Garden. It’s a serene neutral that can blend easily into many spaces and styles. “Midnight Garden is the green that works everywhere—from cabinetry and walls to accents and exteriors,” said Lauren Hoferkamp, Color Marketing Manager at Dunn-Edwards. “Its versatility makes it equally at home on interiors and exteriors, pairing effortlessly with natural textures, warm neutrals, or sleek minimalism.”

Universal Khaki is refined, approachable luxury inside one dynamic hue. It’s sophistication without pretentiousness; warmth without staleness; and versatility without boredom. “Khaki is more than just a neutral—it’s a timeless, go-anywhere shade that brings a sense of grounded elegance to any space,” shares Sue Wadden, Director of Color Marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “With its warm, earthy undertones, Universal Khaki SW 6150 effortlessly complements a wide range of colors, creating a rich, inviting backdrop that can transform an entire design with quiet confidence.”

Bold yet familiar, Hidden Gem is a special mix of jewel and earth tones. What’s created is a calming, elegant green that can instantly transform any room into a den of inspiration. “Now more than ever, there’s a growing appetite for colors that challenge convention and bring an unexpected sense of wonder to everyday spaces,” says Erika Woelfel, VP of Color and Creative Services at Behr Paint. “Hidden Gem captures that spirit in both name and color—its depth and refinement meets the desire for colors that are eternally stunning and stylish.”

If you’re looking for a stain to pair well with just about any of your decor no matter your style or taste, you can’t go wrong with Special Walnut. “With wood emerging as a key element in interior design—from furniture and flooring to cabinetry and architectural details—there’s a renewed appreciation for finishes that enhance its natural character,” says Lisbeth Parada, Color and Design Lead at Minwax. “Special Walnut delivers with a classic, dimensional tone that feels both familiar and fresh. Its versatility makes it a favorite across styles and applications—whether you’re restoring a vintage piece or finishing a weekend project.”

“Our 2026 Color of the Year invites homeowners to embrace what matters most—comfort, quality and connection,” says Lisbeth Parada, Color Marketing Manager at Dutch Boy Paints. “Melodious Ivory offers a classic backdrop that beautifully supports the textures, elements and personal touches that make a space truly feel like home.” And what’s great about it, too, is how well it complements other colors and patterns. Its warmth will provide that cozy feel no matter what, and its neutrality acts as the perfect companion to any bold design.

“Warm Eucalyptus is more than just a beautiful shade of green, it’s a reflection of the comfort we crave in our homes,” says Sue Kim, Director of Color Marketing at Valspar. “Its warm undertones create a grounded, welcoming mood while drawing inspiration from nature and the familiarity of retro design. This is a color that encourages restoration and resilience.” This shade could look beautiful just about anywhere when utilized right. Pair with complementary shades of rich brown, amber, or dark walnut for a vintage-inspired look that still feels fresh.

Glidden calls Warm Mahogany “a rich, grounded red that has a classic vibe, but feels brand new when used in big doses or sleek designs.” This shade would be perfect for color drenching, as we can see here in the photo above. But how exactly did Jonathan and Zooey work on combining their interior design styles to get that picture-perfect look that feels effortless? And if you’re having trouble getting on the same page as your living partner, what advice does he have for you?

Jonathan is spilling all his secrets on how to blend your individual tastes with a significant other or roommates , and sharing advice on how to combine your styles in a way that feels cohesive, intentional, and respectful—rather than messy, disjointed, and stressful. Jonathan’s Tips on Merging Design Styles With Your Significant Other

1. Discuss Must-Haves vs. Nice-to-Haves

When you’re first combining households, you likely can’t (and probably shouldn’t!) bring everything you both have. To avoid an overwhelming amount of boxes on move-in day, discuss each other’s wants. vs needs so you start off strong and on the same page. “Is there a family heirloom, or a collectable, or a gift that you gave each other that is an absolute must and you want to make sure it’s showcased? Put it on the must-have list,” Jonathan says. “The other stuff that’s like, ‘Well, we have it but we can probably do without it.’ Move it over on the other list. That way, you already know here’s where we draw the line in the sand and here’s the stuff that’s maybe not as important.”

2. Whoever Uses a Space More Often Has the Final Say

“In our house, Zooey is the cook. She is amazing, and runs that kitchen—so she should have the final say in what we do in that space because it really is her domain,” he says. Likewise, if you have an office, you could take the lead in what you want that room to look like. It’s not that the other person can’t have an opinion, but if one half functions in that space more often, they should get to lead the charge on the foundation of that area.

3. In Rooms You Share, Build Your Style on Common Ground

“But what about the bedroom?” Jonathan says. “You’re both sharing this bedroom—so who gets the final say?” In shared zones, Jonathan recommends finding some common ground. Start with a neutral or agreed-upon color scheme, and let that be the jumping off point for layering in accent pieces like pillows or window coverings within that palette. Try your best to let the process feel collaborative and get comfortable with compromise. You never know—the bedding they choose might end up being your favorite element in the room!

4. Be Open-Minded About Tastes and Styles

Conversation and working together is at the heart of creating a home you both love. Be open to the idea of changing tastes and needs, and embrace getting inspired together. “If you look at magazines and you see something that you really both like, and maybe it wasn’t either of your preference initially, understand that tastes can change,” Jonathan says. “Don’t feel so locked in on something that you have to have, because in five years you might have a different opinion anyway.”

5. Communicate Disagreements Gently

“If there’s something you know that they want, but you really, really don’t want it, have an opportunity to talk about those things together,” Jonathan says. It’s worth it to communicate calmly and gently if you disagree with a certain design choice or style—nobody wants to be criticized or mocked for their taste! Approach the conversation with love, and try to explain why you want to go in a different direction.

6. Get Creative With Pieces You Might Not Love

Jonathan distinctly recalls a chair that his father, Jim, loved in their house growing up—but Jonathan’s mother, Joanne, did not. Instead of getting rid of it, they refreshed it instead. They had a custom slipcover made for the chair that better fit the style of the room, so Jim got to keep his favorite seat and Joanne was able to customize it with a fabric she loved.

Try to find solutions like this for the pieces in your own home where you might have the same problem: re-stain the outdated console that was passed down from a loved one; repaint the catchall dish they just can’t part with; get a new cover for your favorite pillow. There’s so many ways to breathe new life into objects.

7. Get on the Same Page About Budget

This can be the hard part for a lot of couples and roommates—someone feels comfortable spending more, while the other wants to keep the budget more modest. Jonathan says he sees it frequently with a lot of his clients. But it’s important to get on the same page before you make any big decisions! Try meeting in the middle, and be honest with how much money you can really spend. There are savvy ways to save where you don’t have to sacrifice style to get the look you’re going for.

“Most items that you would purchase for a house, you could also find a more modest version of that without sacrificing the aesthetic,” Jonathan says. “So there’s a lot of real good deals you can find—replicas of even vintage pieces that you may like—so you don’t have to blow the budget.” You can find real gems at online vintage markets, secondhand antique stores, and a slurry of other furniture retailers at a great price.

8. Everyone Needs a Space That’s Their Own

Everyone deserves a little zone where they can unwind, relax, and call their own. Depending on how much space you have at home, this might look like a craft room, your home office, the garden in the backyard, or a small reading nook in the living room. It doesn’t have to be a full room or a grand study (though it can be if you have the space for it!). The most important thing is that the area feels like a comfortable place for you to recharge.

9. The Most Important Thing Is Your Relationship with One Another

“Biggest thing is, you love your partner; you love your friend; your roommate; whoever you live with—you want to make sure you have a great relationship living together. So just take the time upfront to think through the whole process, and it’ll be better for you down the road,” Jonathan says. At the end of the day, the place you live is home for you both, so it should feel like it for everyone!
