If there’s a coffee drinker in your household, we’re willing to bet there’s been at least one spill in your home at some point, whether it was marred with a small spot or a whole cup full of joe. Maybe you dropped your mug a minute ago, or perhaps there’s a coffee-stained rug that’s been haunting you for way too long… Whatever the case, you can learn how to get that coffee stain out of your rug quickly and easily—right here, right now.

Of all the stains that can happen, there’s certainly more stubborn ones than coffee. But when left untreated, set-in coffee stains can definitely become a headache. Luckily, you have options. In order to remove coffee stains, you can go with an at-home solution (like with white vinegar or a mix of mild dish soap and water), or you might decide to go with a more thorough solution, like an enzymatic cleaner or a carpet cleaner that can help remove dried-in stains.

No matter what kind of carpet or area rug you’re working with, this simple guide will help you get it back to its cleanest state. With a reliable carpet spot cleaner and a little bit of patience, you’ll get it done right the first time around. Below, find tips to know before you start your stain removal process, and step-by-step instructions to keep your rug in tip-top shape after you clean up your coffee spill.

  • If it’s your first time using a specific carpet cleaner on your rug, it’s important to do a patch test before you commit. Apply cleaning solution to a small, inconspicuous area of the rug and follow the directions on the label. If you don’t see any damage, you’re ready to start the stain-removal process!
  • If you do see signs of damage or bleaching after the patch test, try another (more gentle) carpet cleaner, test one of the DIY methods at the end of this article, or hire a professional to clean your carpet.
  • If you had milk, coffee creamer, or sugar in your mug and want to avoid any unpleasant odors, use an oxygen-based cleaner or enzymatic carpet cleaner first to help break down any residue, in addition to your normal cleaning solution.

Step 1: Blot and Dilute

If your spill is still fresh, the first step to avoiding a ruined rug is to blot (not rub) the excess moisture away with a clean, dry towel or cloth. If you’re dealing with an old, set-in stain, dab the area with a clean, damp cloth to loosen up the carpet fibers and stain debris. Then, grab a second clean rag and dab the stain until no more coffee rubs off onto the cloth.

Step 2: Apply Carpet Cleaning Detergent

Using our table above, identify your ideal carpet cleaner: spot treatment, oxygen-based, or enzymatic (or potentially a combination). Apply your carpet cleaner onto the soiled area. Follow the directions on your cleaner’s packaging to ensure you’re using the product most efficiently and effectively. Blot with a clean rag.

Tip: Always blot towards the center of the stain rather than outward; you don’t want to spread the stain to a larger area.

Step 3: Wet, Blot, and Air Dry

After you’ve successfully removed the stain, it’s time to make sure you’re not leaving behind any stain detergent. Wet the stain once again with cold water, blot away the residue and water with a clean cloth, and let the rug air dry. Avoid walking on it until it is 100% dry.

Step 4: Vacuum to Fix Up the Fibers

Once the rug is dry, run a vacuum over the area where the stain used to be. Doing so will lift matted fibers back to their pre-spill glory.

If you prefer to DIY a coffee stain removal solution in a pinch, look to these two easy solutions:

  1. Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar, one tablespoon of dish soap, and two cups of warm water. Apply to the stain and wait at least 10 minutes before wiping it away. Then proceed from Step 3 from above.
  2. For another option, combine one cup of water with ⅓ cup baking soda to form a paste. Spread it on the stain, let the mixture set for 20 or so minutes, and vacuum clean.

Are coffee stains permanent on carpet?

Generally, coffee stains on carpet are not permanent. However, they can become more difficult to clean once they’ve set in or dried into the carpet fibers. The best thing you can do with a coffee spill on carpet is act quickly—but, even set-in coffee stains can be removed with some patience.

Even if you’re diligent about keeping your bathroom vanity, faucets, and tile and grout clean, a common bathroom neglect is the one thing that needs the most thorough care: your bathtub drain. If you’re noticing that it’s taking longer than usual for water to drain from the tub, that’s a sure sign that it’s time to clean out your drain. In fact, it might not only be clogged, but could even be suffering from soap scum buildup, too. All of this can lead to smelly pipes and a bathroom that just doesn’t feel as clean as you’d like. But learning how to clean the bathroom drain is the first step to making your bathroom truly shine.

A slow-draining bathtub is a signal that there’s a clog or buildup that needs attending to. And it only gets worse when left untreated. As dirty water sits too long waiting to go down the drain, buildup accumulates in the bathtub. That means more time scrubbing the tub, more time dealing with stuck-on scum, and more unwanted smells. That’s why caring for your bathroom pipes is a must. Below, we’re giving you three ways to keep your bathtub working and looking its best. You’ll learn how to clean a bathroom drain, how to unclog your drain, and how to prevent buildup from accumulating in the first place. We also unpack some frequently asked questions about drain cleaning to help you find the answers you’re looking for.

Note: If you find that none of these approaches work, you might have a bigger problem on your hands. At that point, we recommend calling in a professional plumber.

The products you need to clean your bathroom drain are probably already in your home: baking soda and white vinegar. This dynamic duo of cleaning solutions works to break up buildup without the need to use abrasive chemicals that can harm your pipes and the planet. Not to mention, some of these products marketed toward drain-cleaning are actually harming your pipes! So instead of using those harsh products, simply follow these steps:

  1. Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the drain, packing it in.
  2. Then, slowly pour 1 cup of white vinegar onto the baking soda. You should see it foam up within seconds.
  3. Set a 30-minute timer while you tackle another project on your bathroom cleaning checklist.
  4. Afterward, flush the drain with hot water to keep the pipes clean and clear.

How do you rectify stubborn clogs? In a word: snakes. (No need to go all Indiana Jones on your bathtub… We’re talking about the snake tool designed to remove clogs in your drain.) These handy pieces of hardware range in sturdiness, sophistication, and price, so it’s just about choosing the right one to handle your needs.

The simplest version features plastic barbs that catch hair and debris. Or, you can try an option with a manual crank that spins to capture even more ick. And if your drain is more prone to clogging, consider investing in an electric snake—the most powerful of the bunch. No matter which choice you go with, you’ll get to experience that disgustingly satisfying moment of pulling out the gunk that’s been hiding in the drain and giving you problems.

It’s perfectly normal to lose some hair when you’re working in your shampoo and conditioner. And while you can’t stop yourself from shedding, you can purchase a handy hair catcher to prevent your strands from ending up clogging the drain in the first place. This genius device acts as a sieve specifically for your shower drain, preventing clogs before they even start. Besides a drain catcher, though, here are some other handy ways to prevent buildup and blockages in your bathroom drain:

  • Run hot water down the drain once a week.
  • Brush your hair before showering to remove loose strands and limit hair going down the drain.
  • Keep up with monthly maintenance using the techniques mentioned above.

Will Dawn dish soap unclog a bathtub drain?

Dawn dish soap can help remove minor clogs in the drain like soap scum, body oil, and other buildup, especially when flushed with hot water. However, it’s not effective for removing more stubborn clogs like hair. In this case, it’s best to use a drain snake to remove the clog completely, and then clean your drain with a cleaner like Dawn dish soap or a mix of vinegar and baking soda.

When you’re getting ready to start on your spring cleaning checklist, there are plenty of spots in the house that you know you’ll have to get to. Chore charts and cleaning schedules are sure to help keep you on track, but sometimes you have questions about the little things, and you don’t want to have to go digging for the answers. How often do you clean the bathroom drain? Do you have to flip your mattress? What’s the best way to tackle the inside of the fridge? These are all frequently asked cleaning questions that you might be wondering about during deep cleaning season—and we have the answers you’re looking for!

We cover all of that plus the important information nobody ever wants to think about. You know, common cleaning questions like, should you be sanitizing your sponges? Or what about how to stop the litter box from getting smelly? And does anyone really clean their couch as often as they should? Whether they’re questions that you might feel embarrassed to ask or little things around the house that are bugging you that you just want the answer to, we’re here to help. Below, we mapped it all out and organized the topics by room so you can easily find and solve your conundrum. We even called on our editors to see what cleaning curiosities they want solved, too. Now, let’s get your questions answered so you’re ready to tackle your to-dos with confidence.

Is Bleach Safe to Use in My Toilet and Sink?

In general, a diluted bleach solution is safe to use to disinfect the toilet and certain sink surfaces, but should be used sparingly and never in combination with other cleaners. For sink surfaces, bleach is safe for ceramic, porcelain, and enamel; do not use it on unsealed stone, cultured marble, stainless steel, or metal, as it can stain, corrode, or etch. For disinfection, use a heavily diluted bleach solution in a spray bottle (around 1 tablespoon of bleach per quart of water); let it sit for a minute or two, and then wipe it down with a damp, clean rag. Never pour bleach directly down the drain, as it can cause corrosion in your pipes.

What’s the Best Order to Clean a Bathroom?

Like every place in the house, you should always work top to bottom. Start with dusting or vacuuming the bathroom exhaust fan (ceiling), and then work your way down (dust high shelves, wipe down walls, then surfaces, then clean the floors). Likewise, work top to bottom in each individual area. For the toilet, for example, wipe down the top, then sides, the exterior and interior of the lid, and finally the base. This prevents dust from flying around or attaching to surfaces you already cleaned.

How Often Should I Clean the Bathroom?

It depends on your household, foot traffic, and bathroom type, but in general, you should clean the bathroom every 2-3 days, or at the very least, weekly to prevent bacteria buildup and mildew. Aim to wipe surfaces down daily, just as you would in the kitchen or living room, with a thorough cleaning at least once a week. Keeping on top of your cleaning schedule in the bathroom can help prevent illness and grime, and keep the bathroom smelling good.

How Do You Keep the Bathroom Smelling Fresh?

Staying on top of your bathroom cleaning tasks is the easiest way to keep it smelling fresh. The bathroom tends to hold onto smells easily, so sticking to a schedule is key. Don’t forget to clean those spaces that can trap smells easily, too, like the toilet brush holder, shower drains, and the toilet. Wipe down the inside and outside of the trash can when you take the trash out; wash and sanitize the inside and outside of the toilet brush holder after each use; clean the exterior and interior of the toilet at least once a week; and clean your shower head and the bathroom drains once a month to keep things smelling fresh. You can also use room sprays, candles, or diffusers for an added layer of scent.

Should I Sanitize My Sponges?

Short answer: Yes. Sponges hold onto a lot of bacteria. Think about what your sponge has touched in the last week. Dirty plates, used glasses and reusable straws, cutting boards—that’s a ton of different substances! And your kitchen sponges can harbor that bacteria, which can result in buildup, mold, and yeast. (Gross.) It’s recommended to replace your kitchen sponge every two weeks or so. But get this—you should actually be sanitizing your sponges every day. So every night after you’ve finished the dishes, give your sponge a quick zap in the microwave (killing 99.99999% of bacteria) or let it run through the dishwasher (killing 99.9998%). The USDA states that these are the two best ways of sanitizing your sponges.

How Do I Know When It’s Time to Toss My Pans and Buy New Ones?

Generally, stainless steel and cast iron pans are going to have the longest lifespan of any cookware. Their natural durability means, when taken care of properly, they can last for decades. Nonstick cookware, however, will last around five years at most. According to Made In Cookware, some ways to tell if it’s time to replace your nonstick cookware are food sticking, rust, scratches, discoloration, peeling, or warping. It’s important to replace your nonstick cookware as soon as you see any signs of wear like this. Depending on your nonstick cookware’s chemical treatment—be it PTFE, ceramic, or anodized aluminum—serious damage to the pan can even pose a health risk. Though nonstick cookware serves its purpose and can be helpful when cooking certain foods, if you’re looking to get more bang for your buck and keep potential toxin risk low, opt for cast iron or stainless steel pans.

Why Is There Greasy Residue On My Open Kitchen Shelving?

You’re not going to love this answer, but that greasy residue is actually from the oils and fats you use to cook. It can splatter further than you’d think, including onto cupboards, shelving, and backsplashes. But there are easy ways to make sure your kitchen stays clean and residue-free. If you have a range hood, take out the filters every week or every other week and clean them in soapy water, and spray down the outside of the range regularly. If you don’t have a range hood and can’t install one, you’ll need to take extra care of your kitchen. Wipe down surfaces weekly with a mix of equal parts water and vinegar. Also consider purchasing a splatter screen for your pans. Whatever your setup, always wipe down open areas in the kitchen with an all-purpose cleaner or a disinfectant to keep your space free of residue, grime, and bacteria.

How Do I Clean My Coffee Pot?

Yes, you should be cleaning your coffee machine! Once a month or so, depending on how frequently you’re using your coffee pot, give your machine a good clean. Running the machine with vinegar does the trick. It’ll sanitize the machine, rid any parts of mold or mildew, and make your coffee taste better. In fact, how to clean a coffee machine is actually pretty simple! According to HGTV, you should pour four cups of vinegar through the reservoir, let the vinegar sit for 30 minutes to do its magic, and then run a brew cycle. Afterwards, make sure you run the machine through with plain water three or four times, or until the vinegar smell is fully gone. (Note: Some coffeemakers have specific cleaning instructions, so make sure to check your manual first.)

How Frequently Should I Actually Wash My Sheets?

Experts say that you should wash your sheets at least once a week. And according to Sleep Foundation, “Some people should wash their sheets even more often than once a week. If you have pets, and particularly if you let them sleep in your bed, a wash every 3 – 4 days is recommended.” We spend a ton of time in bed (up to 60+ hours a week!), and with the combination of dirt, natural oils, sweat, and other buildup, it’s important to keep your bedding clean. And don’t forget to clean and flip your mattress every four months or so too.

How Do I Stop the Mirror From Getting Dusty So Quickly?

Quick lesson in physics: Dust is attracted to statically-charged surfaces. And something as simple as wiping a mirror down in a circular motion can actually create static electricity. This becomes a perfect love affair between a mirror and pesky dust particles. So eliminating that static from the beginning will prolong dust from settling the moment you’re done cleaning. First, wipe down the mirror, without any sprays or cleaners, in a side-to-side motion using a dry microfiber cloth. This will remove dust particles and avoid static. (Never use a paper towel—they leave residue, tiny dust particles, and can actually damage your mirror.) Afterward, use a cleaner of your choice and a clean microfiber cloth, again using the side-to-side method. Make sure to leave the mirror as dry as possible, so dust doesn’t stick to any leftover residue.

How Do I Keep Clothes Smelling Fresh After I Wash Them and Put Them Away?

Scent satchels, charcoal packs, and odor-removing packs will help keep your drawers and closets smelling fresh. Place a pack inside each of your drawers to keep your clothes smelling as clean as they did out of the dryer, and hang moisture-absorbing or scented satchels on a couple of your hangers inside the closet to do the same. As for regular upkeep on how to make your clothes smell good daily, it’s as simple as using a laundry detergent that has a scent you love.

Can You Wash Your Pillows? If So, How Do You Wash Them?

You can (and definitely should!) be cleaning your pillows around two to four times per year, depending on if you have pets, tend to be a hot sleeper, or maybe do some midnight snacking in bed. Depending on your pillow fill, Consumer Reports recommends different washing strategies. Wash your pillows in the washing machine on the gentle cycle if they’re down, feather-filled, or polyester, and hand-wash with a damp cloth and mild detergent if they’re made of memory foam. But always follow the manufacturer guidelines first before jumping in. Pillow protectors and mattress protectors will also help keep your pillows and bed linens in good shape.

How Often Should I Clean My Couch?

Regular vacuum cleaning between and underneath couch cushions and pillows should happen weekly or biweekly. If you eat or drink, cuddle with your pets, and/or sleep on the couch, you should be vacuuming the cushions more frequently. But deep cleaning, using an upholstery cleaner (like the Bissell Little Green Upholstery Cleaner), is best done every four to six months, and more often if you deal with things like pet odor.

How Frequently Should I Mop My Floors?

First thing’s first—your environment, lifestyle, and household will dramatically change this answer. Pets, kids, how often you host, and whether or not you allow shoes around the house are all small things to consider when thinking about your mopping schedule. A good rule of thumb is to vacuum or sweep daily, and mop at least once a week. But if you have a more active household, mopping every other day or every three days is a good practice. Bonus: If you’re someone who likes efficiency, consider investing in a vacuum mop, so you can combine two chores into one.

How Do I Clean the TV Without Leaving Streaks On the Screen?

Though glass cleaners and all-purpose sprays are great for cleaning surfaces like mirrors, tabletops, and other home areas, your computer and TV screens require different care. If you’re wondering how to clean the TV without leaving any streaks, a cleaning spray specifically made for screens will be your best bet. There are a ton of great eco-friendly screen cleaning products that clean everything from laptops to tablets, televisions, and other electronic devices. Whichever product you choose though, a screen cleaner should be part of your regular cleaning arsenal.

How Do I Clean My Cell Phone?

Take a second and think about how frequently you touch your phone. Often, we’re typing on it with dirty hands, pressing the phone up to our skin when we make phone calls, letting it sit at the bottom of bags or inside pockets… your cell phone touches a lot of surfaces. Which means you should be cleaning it often—once a week at the very most, but ideally once a day. Verizon recommends using an antibacterial cloth or a 70% isopropyl alcohol swab and gently wiping down the outside of your cell phone and phone case. Make sure to avoid letting moisture into any ports. This way, your phone stays sanitized and you minimize the risk of germs spreading onto other surfaces in your home.

How Do I Keep the Litter Box from Smelling?

Litter box odor solutions can seem like a dead end. Sometimes, it feels like no matter what you do, the smell will always linger. We’re here to help you change that. The type of kitty litter you use often has an affect on how it holds onto smells. Clay-based and non-clumping litters are the least effective at trapping smells, while plant-based, silica-based, and clumping litter have better odor control. Apart from your litter, though, cleaning the litter box daily and washing the litter box once a month, and sprinkling baking soda inside of the litter box are surefire ways to get your litter box odor-free. One of our editors also recommends using the Zero Odor Litter Box spray to help keep stinks at bay.

Where Should I Really Be Dusting?

Your regular dusting schedule and your deep clean dusting schedule will vary. It may seem like an insignificant task, but dusting regularly can help prevent sicknesses, reduce allergies, and help keep your entire home clean. Think about the surfaces that get frequent use or spaces that get more traffic, like the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and dining room. Where you should be dusting in your house regularly often comes down to where you spend the most time. So surfaces in these rooms should get a weekly wipe-down and thorough surface dusting. Sparkle and Shine says dusting places like windowsills, door frames, ceiling fans, and walls can be done less frequently, when you give your house a good deep cleaning.

I Don’t Want to Use Harsh Chemicals. How Can I Clean Sustainably?

If you’re someone who opts for eco-friendly cleaners or hacks that use household items to disinfect, you’re not alone! Around here, we love utilizing eco-conscious swaps whenever we can, especially with pets and kids in the house. There are a few items that you should always have laying around that will work on almost anything: baking soda, distilled white vinegar, dish soap, and rubbing alcohol. Consider making your own garbage disposal bombs using vinegar and lemon peels, or tackling the bathtub drain with baking soda and white vinegar. Sustainable cleaning options are abundant, and often, just as effective as cleaning with chemicals.

What size rug is best for an entryway?

The size of your rug really depends on the size of your entryway and your personal style, but as a general rule of thumb, doormats are typically about 2 x 3 feet (this should work for a small entry) or around 3 x 5 feet (this is nice for a larger area). However, entryway rugs don’t have to be this size. You could instead choose to go with a runner, a larger area rug, or a round rug, depending on what you have to work with and the style you’re going for. Just make sure the rug is proportionate to the size of the space to allow for clear walking paths and an intentional design look. And always measure your space before buying!

We all love our pets! From their snuggles to their silly personalities, they truly make our lives better. That’s why we spoil them with cozy pet beds, all the fun toys and cat trees, and of course, plenty of treats. We take care of them and they take care of us in return. But as anyone who has a furry family member knows: Our four-legged friends can also shed—a lot. And it can get annoying to watch it take over our couches, clothes, bedding, and more. If this sounds like you, then you likely need some good pet hair removers to help control the shedding. And luckily, there are incredible products out there now that can handle the job.

Whether you’ve got one tiny kitten or a whole family of golden retrievers, pet hair removers are an essential to keep your home (and your things) feeling clean and smelling good. And there’s no one-size-fits-all, either. Of course there are essentials that every pet household needs, like lint rollers and a nice vacuum that’s built for pet messes. But depending on your home, your pet, and your needs, you could probably benefit from a few other pet removers, too: an air purifier meant to contain pet odors and keep air clean; a pet hair roller remover meant for upholstered sofas and hard-to-clean materials; or even a dense comb tool that can lift fur out of high-pile carpets and thick fibers.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the highest-rated pet hair removers in all these categories and more. Below, you’ll find editor-favorite vacuums, super-sticky lint rollers, air purifiers that specifically target pet dander, and more. We also included options for traveling or on-the-go use in your car, because somehow hair always ends up there, too.

01

Editor-Tested

ChomChom Pet Hair Remover

$24.99

A reusable lint roller is a great pet hair remover option that you don’t have to replace too often, and this one has gone viral for a reason. Its larger size is perfect for cleaning couches and upholstered furniture in a cinch. All you have to do is rub the brush back and forth like a regular lint roller—it’ll trap pet hair in the chamber, and you can empty it into the trash with the push of a button. The ChomChom has earned rave reviews for its shocking performance, with one 5-star user writing, “I have a Golden Retriever (if you have one you know). I literally vacuum every day, use a Swiffer on the floor at least 3 times a day. I don’t even know how this dog has hair left! This ChomChom (it should be called MagicMagic) is worth every single nickel…It removes hair off my furniture much more effective and quicker than any high end vacuum cleaner can.”

02

Best Pet Hair Remover Broom

One 5-star buyer writes, “Would give this 6 stars if I could. This has made cleaning dog hair off of my rugs so much easier. It is super light weight and collects so much hair. Make it easier to collect hair without it getting stuck in the rollers on my vacuum. 100% worth the money.”

04

06

Best Budget Pet Hair Remover for Carpet

ELEMSY Pet Hair Remover Pro

Amazon

If there’s carpet in your home—especially medium- or high-pile carpeting—pet hair can become embedded deep within the fibers, making it particularly hard to clean. With this handy gadget, however, you’ll make quick work of removing all of it. Think of it as a miniature rake that goes deep within the layers to pick up whatever is stuck below. The ergonomic handle makes it comfortable to hold; and short, quick strokes in every direction allow it to do its job with relative ease.

07

Best for Quick Cleaning

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser

Amazon

$89.99

If you don’t have a vacuum that’s specifically marketed for pet hair removal, then it’s not going to be 100% effective on it. This one by Bissell comes with a motorized brush head, a crevice tool, and an upholstery attachment for detailed surface cleaning. It runs up to 17 minutes on high before needing a recharge, has a powerful lithium-ion battery, and works on little messes like kibble, too.

“I know everybody has that one teacher who really transformed their lives,” Jonathan says. That’s who Jim, a beloved film teacher in Los Angeles, is to Zooey. He’s currently 81 years old, and originally Jonathan stopped by to help set up an air conditioning unit for Jim so he could be more comfortable in his home, especially during the California summers. However, when he was at Jim’s place, Jonathan could tell that he was not in an ideal living situation. There were piles of books, DVDs, and boxes that were taking over every inch of space. “I thought maybe we could do a little bit more, and as I was talking about this with Zooey, I got a text from Jim. It was hard to read,” Jonathan says.

“Jonathan, I have a huge favor to ask and I hope you understand my problem. My apartment is where I used to host Sunday screenings for friends and students, and the LA Times even did a front-page article on me and my life as a teacher. And given that my books and DVDs are such a big part of my life and have been for so many years, it’s very difficult to get rid of them. I do need to find a way to go through the books and DVDs so I can find out what I can get rid of and what remains precious to me. Many of these are out of print. More than anything, I just want my apartment to be my own Parisian Cinématique, so I can share my movies with friends and not be embarrassed to have anyone over. I’m asking for your indulgence for a week. A little help to pare things down would be great,” Jim texted. So, Jonathan jumped in with a team to get Jim his home back.

Starting Small

Jim has made such an impact on the people in his life. He’s hosted film showings at his apartment for former students, friends, and loved ones, and he’s always enjoyed sharing the joy of movies and literature. Over the years, though, his great collection of DVDs, books, and other arts has grown and the boxes have taken over. He’s struggled to keep it in order, and like a snowball, it’s turned into a space he can no longer host at—there’s simply no room. When there’s boxes upon boxes of items to sort through, it’s best to start small. So, the team got to work categorizing Jim’s collection, and boxing them up so they could get to work on the space beneath the stuff.

Editing It Down

After items were categorized and taken out of the space, they were able to get to work editing down each category. They made keep and donate piles for clothes, and took their time going through all of the items with Jim so it wasn’t overwhelming. From there, they took note of any pain points in the apartment. He needed more shelving for his media collection, for example, and better furniture that fit his home and lifestyle. They helped solve these issues with a cozy new sectional, multifunctional appliances, and they cleaned the apartment top-to-bottom so it was easier for Jim to start fresh.

A Brand-New Life

It wasn’t just organizing and cleaning that the crew helped with—they also built Jim new shelving, upgraded his sound system and organized his cords and TV wires, helped him parse down his kitchen supplies, set him up with new furniture, and more. When they walked through the apartment, Jim was shocked (and so were we!). They were able to give Jim the gift of a new chapter—one where film showings and game nights are abundant, and everyday life feels calmer.

“I was living in a hovel, and all of a sudden, it’s a palace,” Jim says. “A new life is what this feels like.”
