If there’s a coffee drinker in your household, we’re willing to bet there’s been at least one spill in your home at some point, whether it was marred with a small spot or a whole cup full of joe. Maybe you dropped your mug a minute ago, or perhaps there’s a coffee-stained rug that’s been haunting you for way too long… Whatever the case, you can learn how to get that coffee stain out of your rug quickly and easily—right here, right now.

Of all the stains that can happen, there’s certainly more stubborn ones than coffee. But when left untreated, set-in coffee stains can definitely become a headache. Luckily, you have options. In order to remove coffee stains, you can go with an at-home solution (like with white vinegar or a mix of mild dish soap and water), or you might decide to go with a more thorough solution, like an enzymatic cleaner or a carpet cleaner that can help remove dried-in stains.

No matter what kind of carpet or area rug you’re working with, this simple guide will help you get it back to its cleanest state. With a reliable carpet spot cleaner and a little bit of patience, you’ll get it done right the first time around. Below, find tips to know before you start your stain removal process, and step-by-step instructions to keep your rug in tip-top shape after you clean up your coffee spill.

  • If it’s your first time using a specific carpet cleaner on your rug, it’s important to do a patch test before you commit. Apply cleaning solution to a small, inconspicuous area of the rug and follow the directions on the label. If you don’t see any damage, you’re ready to start the stain-removal process!
  • If you do see signs of damage or bleaching after the patch test, try another (more gentle) carpet cleaner, test one of the DIY methods at the end of this article, or hire a professional to clean your carpet.
  • If you had milk, coffee creamer, or sugar in your mug and want to avoid any unpleasant odors, use an oxygen-based cleaner or enzymatic carpet cleaner first to help break down any residue, in addition to your normal cleaning solution.

Step 1: Blot and Dilute

If your spill is still fresh, the first step to avoiding a ruined rug is to blot (not rub) the excess moisture away with a clean, dry towel or cloth. If you’re dealing with an old, set-in stain, dab the area with a clean, damp cloth to loosen up the carpet fibers and stain debris. Then, grab a second clean rag and dab the stain until no more coffee rubs off onto the cloth.

Step 2: Apply Carpet Cleaning Detergent

Using our table above, identify your ideal carpet cleaner: spot treatment, oxygen-based, or enzymatic (or potentially a combination). Apply your carpet cleaner onto the soiled area. Follow the directions on your cleaner’s packaging to ensure you’re using the product most efficiently and effectively. Blot with a clean rag.

Tip: Always blot towards the center of the stain rather than outward; you don’t want to spread the stain to a larger area.

Step 3: Wet, Blot, and Air Dry

After you’ve successfully removed the stain, it’s time to make sure you’re not leaving behind any stain detergent. Wet the stain once again with cold water, blot away the residue and water with a clean cloth, and let the rug air dry. Avoid walking on it until it is 100% dry.

Step 4: Vacuum to Fix Up the Fibers

Once the rug is dry, run a vacuum over the area where the stain used to be. Doing so will lift matted fibers back to their pre-spill glory.

If you prefer to DIY a coffee stain removal solution in a pinch, look to these two easy solutions:

  1. Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar, one tablespoon of dish soap, and two cups of warm water. Apply to the stain and wait at least 10 minutes before wiping it away. Then proceed from Step 3 from above.
  2. For another option, combine one cup of water with ⅓ cup baking soda to form a paste. Spread it on the stain, let the mixture set for 20 or so minutes, and vacuum clean.

Are coffee stains permanent on carpet?

Generally, coffee stains on carpet are not permanent. However, they can become more difficult to clean once they’ve set in or dried into the carpet fibers. The best thing you can do with a coffee spill on carpet is act quickly—but, even set-in coffee stains can be removed with some patience.

Even if you’re diligent about keeping your bathroom vanity, faucets, and tile and grout clean, a common bathroom neglect is the one thing that needs the most thorough care: your bathtub drain. If you’re noticing that it’s taking longer than usual for water to drain from the tub, that’s a sure sign that it’s time to clean out your drain. In fact, it might not only be clogged, but could even be suffering from soap scum buildup, too. All of this can lead to smelly pipes and a bathroom that just doesn’t feel as clean as you’d like. But learning how to clean the bathroom drain is the first step to making your bathroom truly shine.

A slow-draining bathtub is a signal that there’s a clog or buildup that needs attending to. And it only gets worse when left untreated. As dirty water sits too long waiting to go down the drain, buildup accumulates in the bathtub. That means more time scrubbing the tub, more time dealing with stuck-on scum, and more unwanted smells. That’s why caring for your bathroom pipes is a must. Below, we’re giving you three ways to keep your bathtub working and looking its best. You’ll learn how to clean a bathroom drain, how to unclog your drain, and how to prevent buildup from accumulating in the first place. We also unpack some frequently asked questions about drain cleaning to help you find the answers you’re looking for.

Note: If you find that none of these approaches work, you might have a bigger problem on your hands. At that point, we recommend calling in a professional plumber.

The products you need to clean your bathroom drain are probably already in your home: baking soda and white vinegar. This dynamic duo of cleaning solutions works to break up buildup without the need to use abrasive chemicals that can harm your pipes and the planet. Not to mention, some of these products marketed toward drain-cleaning are actually harming your pipes! So instead of using those harsh products, simply follow these steps:

  1. Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the drain, packing it in.
  2. Then, slowly pour 1 cup of white vinegar onto the baking soda. You should see it foam up within seconds.
  3. Set a 30-minute timer while you tackle another project on your bathroom cleaning checklist.
  4. Afterward, flush the drain with hot water to keep the pipes clean and clear.

How do you rectify stubborn clogs? In a word: snakes. (No need to go all Indiana Jones on your bathtub… We’re talking about the snake tool designed to remove clogs in your drain.) These handy pieces of hardware range in sturdiness, sophistication, and price, so it’s just about choosing the right one to handle your needs.

The simplest version features plastic barbs that catch hair and debris. Or, you can try an option with a manual crank that spins to capture even more ick. And if your drain is more prone to clogging, consider investing in an electric snake—the most powerful of the bunch. No matter which choice you go with, you’ll get to experience that disgustingly satisfying moment of pulling out the gunk that’s been hiding in the drain and giving you problems.

It’s perfectly normal to lose some hair when you’re working in your shampoo and conditioner. And while you can’t stop yourself from shedding, you can purchase a handy hair catcher to prevent your strands from ending up clogging the drain in the first place. This genius device acts as a sieve specifically for your shower drain, preventing clogs before they even start. Besides a drain catcher, though, here are some other handy ways to prevent buildup and blockages in your bathroom drain:

  • Run hot water down the drain once a week.
  • Brush your hair before showering to remove loose strands and limit hair going down the drain.
  • Keep up with monthly maintenance using the techniques mentioned above.

Will Dawn dish soap unclog a bathtub drain?

Dawn dish soap can help remove minor clogs in the drain like soap scum, body oil, and other buildup, especially when flushed with hot water. However, it’s not effective for removing more stubborn clogs like hair. In this case, it’s best to use a drain snake to remove the clog completely, and then clean your drain with a cleaner like Dawn dish soap or a mix of vinegar and baking soda.

What will dissolve hair in a drain?

What are the best materials for sheds?

Every shed material has its pros and cons. The right one for you depends on several factors, including your budget, location, style, and expectations.

Wood

  • If you want a classic-looking shed, opt for one made from wood lumber, like pine, cedar, and oak.
  • Wood is durable, and it can be stained and painted to match most design motifs.
  • Wood sheds are pricey, and they’re difficult to move once erected.

Vinyl

  • Not only is vinyl a highly durable material, vinyl sheds are typically built around reinforced metal frames, making them strong and easy to maintain.
  • Vinyl doesn’t dampen or attract bugs like wood can.
  • Sheds made from vinyl are more expensive than plastic or resin, but less expensive than wood.

Plastic

  • Plastic is inexpensive and lightweight, and sheds made from plastic come in all ranges of shapes, sizes, and styles.
  • If you live somewhere that’s subject to heavy snow or extreme weather conditions, plastic isn’t the most durable choice.

Resin

  • Resin is a high-density plastic that’s stronger, yet also more expensive, than typical plastic.
  • Resin won’t rust, rot, fade, or warp.
  • While resin is more durable than plastic, not meant to support to heavy snow or withstand extreme winds.

Metal

  • Metal sheds are typically made from galvanized steel or aluminum that’s been coated with vinyl.
  • Metal sheds are durable and relatively easy to maintain.
  • Metal can amplify heat and cold, so if you are storing items that can get damaged in extreme temperatures, metal isn’t the best choice.

How big should a shed be?

How much should a shed cost?

Can I build a shed myself?

Technology has turned many things into a dying art. Handwritten letters are rarer, emojis are used to communicate more often than phone calls, and, while many of us have a high-quality camera at our fingertips (via our smartphones), thousands of photos never make it out of the “cloud.” With more and more people looking to combat the constant supply of technology with analog hobbies and activities, it should come as no surprise that the humble photo album still holds a surprising amount of allure and charm. Whether it’s a linen-bound book displayed on your coffee table, or a sleek digitally-designed tome you can reprint with ease, a thoughtful photo album turns fleeting moments into lasting memories.

Choosing the best photo album book starts with one simple question: how do you want to relive these memories? Traditional print photo albums—the kind where individual photos are slipped into plastic sleeves for display—offer a tactile experience that screens simply can’t replicate, acting as a subtle nod to a simpler era we can all appreciate. On the other end, digital albums—designed online with various companies and printed to your exact specifications—allow you to craft a narrative alongside your imagery, weaving in anecdotes about your vacation, children, or detailed memories to add to your experience.

Ahead, we’ll walk you through how to select the best photo album for your taste and needs, as well as the best albums on the market now. We’ll also show you how to curate it in a sustainable and stress-free way, from narrowing down your photos to designing an heirloom-worthy album you’ll want to open again and again.

Paper Type

When shopping for any type of photo album, you want to make sure your chosen design has acid- and PVC-free paper, especially if you’ll be placing photos atop the pages (as opposed to a print-on-demand book). For digitally printed photo books, you’ll likely have your choice of a few different types and qualities of paper. Matte paper, often dubbed lustre or satin, has a smooth, non-shiny finish that is timeless and sophisticated; glossy paper is best for high-drama and high-contrast imagery and vibrant colors; layflat albums incorporate thick archival paper that’s extremely durable and designed to feel substantial and luxurious.

Print Quality

One of the biggest gripes people have when making their own photo album—whether digitally or traditionally—comes down to the print quality of their photos. If you’re making an album digitally, always make sure to upload the largest version of your image possible to your image gallery, and heed any warnings from the program that flag your shots as too low-res—they likely won’t print crisp enough. If you’re printing your images to include in an album, make sure to choose a high-quality supplier, like Artifact Uprising, Mootsh, Printique, or Shutterfly. Keep in mind that most images shot on an iPhone don’t necessarily default to a 4 x 6 or 5 x 7-inch crop, so you may have to resize your images in order to fit the parameters of your printing service.

Continued Customization

Digitally printed photo albums are great, but one thing they can not do is be modified after printing. If you’re someone who likes to add to their photo album as the years go by, you’re probably better suited to go with a traditional photo album, where you can place physical photos in yourself. Always make sure to buy a few extra plastic sleeves or paper sheets, so you have the flexibility to grow your album as needed.

Creative Involvement

Crafting a photo album is supposed to be a welcome trip down memory lane—not an added stressor. Ahead of choosing the best photo album for your needs, be honest with yourself about how involved you want the process to be. Creating digital photo album books can be time-consuming, especially if you choose to forgo the templates offered by some brands and create your own album from scratch. If you’re intimidated by the technological aspect of creating a photo book online, you might be best served by a more traditional photo album.

Regardless of what type of photo album you choose, you’ll want to make sure you have a quality system in place for organizing and tracking your photos. Apps like Google Photos, Dropbox, or Amazon Photos can be useful for keeping your beloved imagery secure, while other avenues—like the photo libraries offered by Shutterfly, Artifact Uprising, or another online album maker of your choice—can double as a spot to stash your photos.

To keep on top of the process, try to print off photos (or make another photo book!) at least once every six months or so to keep your digital footprint more manageable. Physical pictures can be stored in an archival photo box until you’re ready to sit down and add them to your album. Do you have a camera roll that’s in the thousands and not sure where to even start? Apps like Picnic can help you weed through all those screenshots and selfies to narrow the pool and determine which pictures are worth space in your next album.

The Olympic Games is one of the most impressive and mesmerizing worldwide events ever, with roots dating back over 2,000 years in ancient Greece. But even in its beginning, the Olympics have always been a festive celebration of athletics and culture. And that hasn’t changed! These days, we celebrate the Olympics by coming together and watching the Games on our TV screens in the living room, usually surrounded by snacks, sips, and friends. Which is why it’s important to find Olympic-themed party ideas to get you and your loved ones in the celebratory spirit for the big winter Games!

With the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics happening right now, what better time to take advantage of the event and throw your very own Olympic-themed party? (We don’t know about you, but any excuse to have friends and family over during the chilly months is something we’ll always take advantage of!) There are so many creative ways to celebrate the winter Olympics, too—from Olympic party games to themed food, drinks, and decorations. So if you want to throw an Olympics bash that’s gold medal-worthy, you’ve come to the right place to search for ideas and inspiration. And don’t forget to check out our Pinterest board for Olympic-themed party ideas that you can DIY ahead of the Games!

Whether you’re rooting for USA, Mexico, Canada, or another country, you need to represent your favorite team, of course! Depending on their flag and uniform this year, you can pick out plates, balloons, tablecloths, and Olympic-themed party favors that fit the color scheme and show off your team pride. Include mini flags on your snacks, or make some festive cocktails or mocktails that include your flag’s colors. And get into the cold weather sports spirit with some nods to the season! Some winter-themed decorations are a great idea, too, since you can keep them up even after the Games are over and use them next winter.

Now here’s the most fun part: decking out your place with all the Olympic-themed decor! There are so many ways to include the Games in your decorations, but some of the most festive would be the famous Olympics rings, flags and banners, “Go for Gold” wall hangings, balloons, and medals. If there’s a particular sport you like watching, you could also include wall hangings or table decorations that nod back to that sport. And since it’s still cold outside, you can never go wrong with a winter sports theme, either. Snowboard or ski motif platters, snowflake-shaped confetti, or figure skater napkins would look great around the coffee table or buffet.

For the little ones who just can’t sit still to watch curling (or the folks who want something fun to do while they’re waiting for the Games to start), having some themed party games around the table or in the living room will definitely come in handy. Include a miniature table ring toss with the Olympic’s five colors, or have some Olympic board games and trivia setup inside around a card table. Your guests will definitely appreciate having something fun to do in between the sports’ rounds.

There’s plenty of ways you can incorporate Olympic-inspired foods and drinks into your celebration setup. If you want to stick with a general Olympics theme, we love the idea of crafting a tower of foods native to different countries and placing the associated country’s flag on top. Or instead, go with a winter Games theme and make cozy cold-weather treats, like hot cocoa or snowball cookies, with little Olympics flags on top. The possibilities here are endless! There are also plenty of fan-favorite bites that come in limited edition designs, like Reese’s Olympic medals and red, white, and blue M&Ms.

cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows and an olympics flag on a toothpick

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Olympics party without the Olympics rings. Make sure you have plenty on hand—hang some rings up around the living room as balloons or wall decorations, or even translate the rings into food with donuts, cookies, or color-coordinated veggie platters. Setting up colored plates on the snack table in the same order as the Olympic rings is also a cute nod back to the famous symbol.

Jonathan’s claiming it: “2026 is the year where we are over boring,” he says. So with that in mind, is there a room that needs a little change? Lucky for you, Drew and Jonathan are walking us through their creative ideas to revamp your spaces for a new-year-new-me vibe that speaks to your personality and style, and that you’ll love for years to come. In the video above, they outline when and where a refresh might be necessary, as well as tips to do it right and mistakes to avoid so you keep your room from dating itself in the future. (A moment of silence for anyone who suffered through a tween bedroom’s neon zebra wallpaper…)

From statement wall inspiration to creative ways to use peel-and-stick paper, wood paneling, and even crafty tips for fabrics you might not have thought of yet, the Bros are ringing in the new year with new ways to redecorate and make your home feel special. After all, it’s fun to experiment with design without committing to a full-blown renovation. So explore tips, tricks, and shopping ideas to pull it off here—plus, make sure to subscribe to our Drew & Jonathan YouTube channel for even more inspiration.

1. Play With Statement Wallpaper

“If there’s a wall in your space that is just begging for an extra treatment, this is where you could do something as an easy weekend project, like wallpaper or paneling,” Jonathan says. “You can go bold with your wallpaper, but just know that the bolder you go, generally the faster it goes out of style.” You can still keep things interesting, though. For example, you can choose a neutral-color paper with subtle pattern or texture, which will add interest without being overpowering.

There are a couple different types of wallpaper that you can use, too, depending on your preferred application:

Traditional wallpaper: Installation requires extra work and care, and things can get messy. However, traditional wallpaper offers better longevity (10+ years) and better performance in humidity.

Peel-and-stick wallpaper: Installation is simpler. All you have to do is peel the backing and apply to the wall. (We have a tutorial here.) It still requires careful planning and handling, but without as many tools. So removable wallpaper is great for renters or quick DIYs, but it may be less durable over time.

2. Create a Feature Ceiling

However, Drew mentions, “a feature wall doesn’t have to be a feature wall—with the right kind of wallpaper and peel-and-stick, you can have a feature ceiling.” Get creative this year, and do something out of your comfort zone! There are so many different types of wallpaper designs, from textured grasscloth to gorgeous mural designs and more that can transform a boring ceiling into a focal point.

3. Install Wood Veneer Paneling

Wood paneling is not what it used to be! Today’s wood veneer panels offer style, function, and ultra-easy installation that could look absolutely stunning in any home. Many options can be applied to your walls with just a few screws, making sleek wooden statement walls easier than ever. And some brands, like Wood Veneer Hub, even have a sound-dampening backing for better noise absorption—perfect for living rooms, basement entertainment zones, and rental apartments with thinner walls.

4. Go All-In With Color Drenching

Bold walls don’t begin and end with wallpaper. Color drenching has only gotten more and more popular over the past few years—however, it’s a technique that’s actually been around since the early 20th century. The idea, in short, is to coat an entire room in the same color of paint. It embraces artful monochromatic styling and, when done right, gives a dramatic look to the space without looking overwhelming.

It is possible to go overboard here, so make sure there’s some sort of contrast or variant to keep things looking interesting. “I’m not the biggest fan of having tone on tone on tone for your room all the time, because a lot of people get it wrong,” Drew says. “Make sure to have something that adds some other interest in the space, otherwise it’s just going to look very flat.”

“That’s why I like doing the change-up in the finishes,” Jonathan adds. “Even if the draperies are the same color, you might have a slightly different sheen or a slightly different texture to them. A lot of times I’ll do my casings and my baseboards in a satin finish, and then I’ll do the walls in a matte. You can mix it up.”

5. Try a New Tile

For wet spaces like kitchen backsplashes and bathrooms, you’ll want to reach for tile. But that doesn’t mean you have to go for tile in a typical color. “Tile is a lot trickier, a lot more expensive, a lot more work—but also can have a really great effect,” Jonathan says (Just look at the tile at his house!). “Depending on the aesthetic that you’re going for, there are a million different ways that you can create interest.”

“I love a tile that looks artisanal; it looks handcrafted,” Drew says. “You can also go for a repeat pattern if you want, or you can have something that feels varied throughout the design.” Even if you go with a standard subway tile, you can arrange them in a unique way to bring that visual interest: basketweave, herringbone, crosshatch, chevron—there are so many different solutions to make tile look artful, even if you’re going with a more budget-friendly option.

Reupholstering

Fabric is such an easy, affordable way to make a room feel new, and textural layers are a must to give it that designer finish we all crave. “If you look at any design magazine, you’re never going to see everything just flat, or one color, or the same pattern,” Jonathan says. “The stuff that looks really, really good that’s done by professionals is always layered in. And if you don’t think you can figure that out, it’s okay! You don’t have to. Go online and pull inspiration photos, and then just sort of replicate it for your own purposes. I encourage you to steal all of our designs!”

“And you can find inspiration as well when you go into a beautiful hotel or a restaurant,” he adds. “Take some photos, images that you really love the layered look to, and then go to a fabric shop.” You aren’t limited to the pieces you find online! You can reupholster your pillows, make new curtains, tablecloths, and more.

“Whatever you want, big or small, in your design—2026 is all about you. Let’s bring the joy back into your design!” Drew says.

It’s always a good idea to discover new hobbies to try, and what better time than the beginning of a new year? This period offers a fresh opportunity to think about the skills you want to learn or build upon, so you can expand your knowledge and have a whole lot of fun in the process, too. People search for new hobbies for plenty of good reasons: Maybe you want to hone in on an activity you’ve always been interested in; make time for yourself in a productive and creative way; or even just embrace your curiosity about a subject you know little about. Hobbies are good for the mind, body, and soul. It’s never a bad time to start something new!

Think about how you typically like to spend a free day and go from there. If you consider yourself a foodie, diving into a new cooking or baking technique might be an enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Love a cozy home? Find a home improvement project or DIY hobby that’s both exciting and productive. For those who like to get outside, gardening could be a calming and rewarding activity. And craft kits are an increasingly popular, low-lift way for beginners to learn a new skill. We’ve found eleven exciting new hobbies for you to try in the year ahead—but consider these just the start, because there is a whole world of crafts, projects, and more to explore!

How to Choose a Hobby

Start with a big list of activities that interest you, and slowly work your way into a smaller cluster of ideas. You can start by naming the things you enjoyed as a kid, or listing the habits you keep coming back to now. Then, think about what you want to achieve out of your new hobby. Do you want to learn a new skill? Make healthy habits? Focus on your creativity? Keep crossing off hobbies until you get to a few that fit what you’re looking for, and select the one that stands out to you most. You aren’t limited to one idea, but it helps to start things off simple and slow so you can stay consistent with it.

How to Make Time for Your Hobbies

It may sound cliché, but the best way to make time for your hobbies is to prioritize them! Consistency is key, so make your hobby a habit. You can schedule it into your calendar as a repeat appointment once a week for an easy reminder, integrate it into your daily routine (like listening to an audiobook on your work commute), or even join a club based around your hobby to keep yourself accountable—and make friends along the way! Below, take a look at some fun new hobbies to try this year, and enjoy learning something new.

01

Junk Journaling

junk journaling supplies

Junk journaling is like a mix of scrapbooking, collaging, and memorabilia all in one. Think of it as a physical brain dump, or a personal catalogue of experiences and fun life moments inside one paper journal. Inside, you can include photographs, clips of newspapers, receipts, stickers, ticket stubs, mail, and so much more. It’s a fun way to get creative and chronicle memorable moments.

02

Artisan Pizzas

If you can’t decide between taking up cooking or baking as a pastime, you can have the best of both with artisan pizza making. Tap into your creativity by coming up with new, unexpected topping and dough combinations, or challenge yourself to use a different small kitchen appliance each time. By summer, you’ll be making pies in your outdoor pizza oven for everyone on the block.

03

Diamond Painting

Many find paint-by-numbers, coloring pages, and cross stitch to be calming arts and crafts because you keep your hands (and mind) busy while following a simple pattern. That’s also the appeal of diamond painting, a relatively newer art form that works for all skill levels. Each diamond painting craft kit comes with a printed design to let you know where to place each colored resin rhinestone, with the end result being a sparkly, shimmery work of art.

04

Yoga

How does having better flexibility, strength, and mindfulness this year sound? Yeah, we thought so. Yoga—which combines poses with breathing exercises and moving meditation—has all of those benefits and more. Plus, each pose can easily be adjusted to your level. You don’t have to leave the house to get started, either: Many classes and tutorials are available online, so all you need in your at-home gym is a yoga mat and a willingness to try.

05

Birdwatching

older woman and young girl bird watching

Birdwatching has become an increasingly popular pastime in recent years, and it’s not hard to see why this calming and low-cost hobby has taken off. Birds are everywhere! It’s totally free—and great exercise—to walk in a local park and observe the nature around you. Or, hang a hummingbird feeder from your porch and make some flying friends from the comfort of your own home. Convinced? Buy one of these highly-rated bird feeders and follow the National Audubon Society’s guide for how to start birding to begin.

06

Herb Gardening

Planning a garden can be overwhelming to beginners, so it might help to focus on one lane to start. While there are several easy flowers to grow, herb gardening is an especially rewarding hobby because of all the practical uses that come with it. Elevate the dishes you cook with the herbs you’ve cultivated or incorporate them into a second hobby, like making aromatherapy candles.

07

Woodworking

man carving a wooden decorative shelf

Woodworking can be as complex or as simple a hobby as you want it to be, but challenging yourself is part of the fun. You might start out making small decorative objects like picture frames or floating shelves. Then, graduate to making DIY bean bag toss games for your yard or other DIY projects around the house. Once you gain enough skills, you’ll finally be able to turn that hard-to-style corner into the reading nook of your dreams.

08

Upcycling Furniture

For a satisfying hobby that also happens to be sustainable and eco-friendly, try your hand at redoing broken or unwanted furniture around the house. You’d be surprised how much a fresh coat of paint, updated drawer pulls, or a different wood stain can transform an old dresser or side table.

09

Pickling or Canning

woman pickling vegetables

The best part about a pickling or canning hobby is that everyone benefits from it. All the creative jams, artisanal pickles, and other treats you make can become a thoughtful gift for family members, friends, and neighbors. So put that fancy new blender or food processor you got from the holidays to use and start making yummy salsa!

10

Knitting

man knitting

Always second screening while you stream your favorite shows? Knitting is a better-for-your-brain alternative that still keeps your hands and brain busy at the end of the day without all that blue light. Plus, you get a super snuggly blanket out of it.

11

Cider-Making

woman making apple cider

Home-brewing has become a popular hobby in recent years, but it’s not one you can necessarily share with the whole family. Instead, try making small-batch cider. You can still build out an impressive home bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions. Time to turn that wine fridge into a cider fridge!

What hobby should I try if I’m stressed?

If you’re looking for a hobby that’ll help calm your nerves or keep stress at bay, you’re in luck! There are plenty of activities that are perfect for stress relief, including:

  • Painting
  • Music
  • Journaling
  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Gardening
  • Reading
  • Running
  • Knitting

But the best option is the one that you stay consistent with and that makes you feel fulfilled.

Helpful Tools for Wrapping Presents

Little ELF Paper Cutter

This Little ELF knows his way around gift wrapping. In fact, it may even feel like you actually have a little elf helping you out this holiday season. It cuts your gift wrap right to size easily, quickly, and safely. One Amazon customer even wrote, “You almost feel like an alchemist transforming ordinary paper into gilded sheets of festive exuberance.” Here’s how to use it:

  1. Roll out your paper to size.
  2. Wrap your ELF around the base of the wrapping paper tube.
  3. Glide the ELF across the wrapping paper to cut.

Voilà! You have yourself a perfectly straight piece of wrapping paper (sans the paper cuts).

Wrap Buddies Paper Clamps

Wrap Buddies

Using the Wrap Buddies will totally change your mind about wrapping paper. More often than not, toying with wrapping paper and making sure it stays put in the position that you want requires a balancing act of holding one side down with scissors while measuring around the box with the other hand. And before you know it, the paper’s cut too short and you’re trying to rig a spare piece of wrapping paper around the present…

Say “goodbye” to all that. The Wrap Buddies easily clamp down onto your countertop or table to stretch out the wrapping paper to the perfect size. They also comes with a built-in slot to store your tape for easy use!

DIY Wrapping Paper

If you’re feeling extra crafty this season, consider making your own wrapping paper. It’s easier than it sounds—trust us! Kraft paper is super inexpensive (we found an option for 80 feet of paper for about $5 below) and from there, all you’ll need are rubber stamps and ink or permanent markers to make your one-of-a-kind wrapping paper. Oh, and don’t forget we have free printable gift tags to top it all off, too!

Creative Gift Wrapping Ideas

Tap into your artistic side with festive gift tags, Christmas-themed stickers, hand-drawn glittery trees, or cute gift wrap accessories that make your present sparkle. You can go chic and classic with a triple-wrapped velvet bow, or follow in our editor’s footsteps to create a gorgeous Christmas tree out of ribbon and tape it onto the top of your present. The possibilities are endless! Bonus points if you keep a color scheme or motif going with all of your presents.

Sustainable Wrapping Tips

If you’re looking to stay more sustainable this holiday season, there are also some small steps you can take to go green. Reducing your use of single-use gift wrap and going for a more eco-friendly option is a great place to start. There are plenty of gift wrap alternatives that you likely have lying around your own house, like newspaper, scarves or spare fabric, or even kitchen wax paper.

However, there are also some shops that sell gift wrap that’s made from 100% recycled paper, so you can rest easy knowing your wrapping paper has been given a second life. Other options are to buy reusable gift wrap, fabric gift sacks, or reusable gift boxes that your loved one could then use in the home. It’s like two gifts in one.

Traditional Gift Wrap Supplies

If you like the look of traditional wrapping paper, there are plenty of gorgeous options out there that range in aesthetics, from retro Christmas wrapping paper to kitschy candy cane stripes, glittery paper with festive motifs, and even chic options like the partridge wrapping paper below, as an ode to the famous holiday song “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”

24 of the Best Stocking Stuffers for Everyone on Your List

Because all the fun shouldn’t just sit under the tree!
