Wondering about the secret to the perfect spring break? Hint: It’s less about what you do and more about who you do it with. And what’s better than a long break with family? Whether your crew is staying close to home this year or planning a big getaway, there are plenty of creative ideas and fun things to do for spring break that will help you make the most of your time together.

The best part? You don’t need a busy itinerary to keep everyone entertained. Sometimes a family beach day, an afternoon of mini golf, or even just a picnic at your favorite local park can feel just as fun and special as a week-long vacation. And when the weather doesn’t cooperate, there are still plenty of cozy options to fall back on, like an all-day game tournament, creative crafts, or a family cook-off. If you’re looking for ways to keep kids active, engaged, and off their screens this spring break, these fun ideas are sure to make your week off one you won’t forget.

Mini golf just might be the perfect family spring break activity. It’s easy, affordable, fun for all ages, and it gets everyone outdoors and off screens. Depending on your crew’s style, you can play as casually or competitively as you like, while enjoying plenty of opportunities for talking and bonding. Plus, kids will love the themed obstacles like castles or waterfalls that bring a playful, whimsical touch to the game.

Family game night is a classic for a reason. Kick things up a notch by turning it into an all-day tournament where everyone gets to pick their favorite board game, card game, or even video game. Add a scoreboard and a few snacks and small prizes, and you’ve got an easy way to keep everyone entertained and engaged on rainy spring break days.

Pack up your picnic basket and head to your go-to local park for a little escape into nature nearby. With your picnic blanket as home base, kids can play tag, toss a frisbee, and have good old-fashioned fun in the sun, all while enjoying their favorite drinks and snacks. Complete the outing with a relaxing bike ride or short hike for a full day of smiles.

For families looking for excitement, visiting an amusement park can be the perfect way to spend the day. Enjoy roller coasters, games, and plenty of fun attractions. It doesn’t matter if it’s a day trip to a small, local theme park or a full vacation to a larger destination, the thrills will keep everyone entertained.

A road trip is a great way to explore new destinations without going too far. Plan a route to a nearby city, national park, or other scenic spots and enjoy some family bonding time (complete with road trip games) on the open road. You’ll make memories while discovering new places along the way, too.

Set up a tent in your own backyard and experience the fun of camping without leaving home. Roast marshmallows, tell stories around the fire, and enjoy the fresh air—all from the comfort of your own space. This is a simple, affordable activity that will make lasting memories. And if the weather isn’t ideal, you can always build an indoor fort!

A beach getaway is an easy and restorative way to have fun in the sun. Whether you’re flying to a dream destination or taking a road trip to a nearby beach town, spending time swimming or being near the water, building sandcastles, and relaxing will make for an unforgettable spring break experience.

Take a day trip to a local museum and explore art, history, or science together. Many museums offer interactive exhibits that kids will love, and it combines fun with learning. Don’t forget to check for any special spring break events or discounted admissions!

If your family enjoys the outdoors, take advantage of the spring weather with a family hike. Choose a nearby trail, and enjoy a walk surrounded by nature. Hiking makes it easy to bond, stay active, and explore new environments. Plus, you can likely bring your dog, too.

Try something new with the time off! Sign up for a family art class, pottery session, or cooking lesson. It’s a fun way to learn something together and make memories while developing new skills.

Teach your kids the importance of giving back by volunteering as a family. You could pitch in at your local Habitat for Humanity, or help at a food bank, clean up a park, or assist at a local animal shelter. Volunteering is a rewarding experience that brings the family closer.

Turn your backyard into a theater with a DIY outdoor movie night. Set up a projector and a screen (you can even use a sheet if you need to!), make some popcorn, and watch a family-friendly film under the stars. This is a cozy and fun way to spend the evening together, or you can invite your neighbors and make it an annual event.

Spring break and baseball season go hand in hand. Grab some tickets to see a local game and enjoy the atmosphere of the stadium. Whether it’s a major league team or a college game, it’s a fun outing for all ages.

Knock out two birds with one stone and set up a spring cleaning challenge with your kids. Assign them all chores and set up rewards depending on how quickly they get them done. The overall winner gets the top prize, like choosing a special dinner or the movie that night.

For a family-friendly activity that’s both fun and educational, head to a local aquarium. Kids will love learning about marine life and may even get to interact with sea creatures like starfish or stingrays. It’s an excellent spring break activity for animal lovers.

DIY projects like our coloring pages make passing the time easy, especially if the weather isn’t nice. You could also tackle a craft as a group, whether that’s learning how to crochet together or spending a day designing your own air dry clay creations. Whatever you do, don’t forget to display the finished product on your bookshelf or coffee table.

Host a family cooking challenge and get creative in the kitchen. Pick a theme, like making homemade pizza or baking cookies, and let each family member contribute. Not only will you create delicious dishes, but you’ll have fun working together.

Take a trip to a nearby farm and enjoy a day of farm activities. Many farms offer opportunities to pet animals, pick fresh fruits, or even try horseback riding. It’s an engaging and educational experience that’s perfect for families.

You or your older kids can set up clues to guide the younger ones through a fun scavenger hunt. Or, if you’re short on time, you can snag premade options on Etsy or Amazon, too.

When is Spring Break 2026?

Spring break in 2026 will vary depending on the school district, but most U.S. schools schedule their breaks between early March and the end of March. Nationwide data from MDR Education shows that the week of March 29, 2026 starts the peak spring break week, with nearly 30% of schools on break. There’s another smaller peak around March 15, while April tends to be quieter overall. As always, it’s a good idea to check your local school district’s calendar for exact dates.

Is it better to dye Easter eggs cold or warm?

When it comes to dyeing Easter eggs, cooled eggs are the safer and easier option, in part because bacteria can grow when eggs sit out at warmer temperatures for too long. After boiling your eggs, wait for them to cool down completely, and then use a dye bath at room temperature. In addition to being food-safe, cooled eggs are also much easier to handle and paint, and less likely to crack while you’re decorating.

Technology has turned many things into a dying art. Handwritten letters are rarer, emojis are used to communicate more often than phone calls, and, while many of us have a high-quality camera at our fingertips (via our smartphones), thousands of photos never make it out of the “cloud.” With more and more people looking to combat the constant supply of technology with analog hobbies and activities, it should come as no surprise that the humble photo album still holds a surprising amount of allure and charm. Whether it’s a linen-bound book displayed on your coffee table, or a sleek digitally-designed tome you can reprint with ease, a thoughtful photo album turns fleeting moments into lasting memories.

Choosing the best photo album book starts with one simple question: how do you want to relive these memories? Traditional print photo albums—the kind where individual photos are slipped into plastic sleeves for display—offer a tactile experience that screens simply can’t replicate, acting as a subtle nod to a simpler era we can all appreciate. On the other end, digital albums—designed online with various companies and printed to your exact specifications—allow you to craft a narrative alongside your imagery, weaving in anecdotes about your vacation, children, or detailed memories to add to your experience.

Ahead, we’ll walk you through how to select the best photo album for your taste and needs, as well as the best albums on the market now. We’ll also show you how to curate it in a sustainable and stress-free way, from narrowing down your photos to designing an heirloom-worthy album you’ll want to open again and again.

Paper Type

When shopping for any type of photo album, you want to make sure your chosen design has acid- and PVC-free paper, especially if you’ll be placing photos atop the pages (as opposed to a print-on-demand book). For digitally printed photo books, you’ll likely have your choice of a few different types and qualities of paper. Matte paper, often dubbed lustre or satin, has a smooth, non-shiny finish that is timeless and sophisticated; glossy paper is best for high-drama and high-contrast imagery and vibrant colors; layflat albums incorporate thick archival paper that’s extremely durable and designed to feel substantial and luxurious.

Print Quality

One of the biggest gripes people have when making their own photo album—whether digitally or traditionally—comes down to the print quality of their photos. If you’re making an album digitally, always make sure to upload the largest version of your image possible to your image gallery, and heed any warnings from the program that flag your shots as too low-res—they likely won’t print crisp enough. If you’re printing your images to include in an album, make sure to choose a high-quality supplier, like Artifact Uprising, Mootsh, Printique, or Shutterfly. Keep in mind that most images shot on an iPhone don’t necessarily default to a 4 x 6 or 5 x 7-inch crop, so you may have to resize your images in order to fit the parameters of your printing service.

Continued Customization

Digitally printed photo albums are great, but one thing they can not do is be modified after printing. If you’re someone who likes to add to their photo album as the years go by, you’re probably better suited to go with a traditional photo album, where you can place physical photos in yourself. Always make sure to buy a few extra plastic sleeves or paper sheets, so you have the flexibility to grow your album as needed.

Creative Involvement

Crafting a photo album is supposed to be a welcome trip down memory lane—not an added stressor. Ahead of choosing the best photo album for your needs, be honest with yourself about how involved you want the process to be. Creating digital photo album books can be time-consuming, especially if you choose to forgo the templates offered by some brands and create your own album from scratch. If you’re intimidated by the technological aspect of creating a photo book online, you might be best served by a more traditional photo album.

Regardless of what type of photo album you choose, you’ll want to make sure you have a quality system in place for organizing and tracking your photos. Apps like Google Photos, Dropbox, or Amazon Photos can be useful for keeping your beloved imagery secure, while other avenues—like the photo libraries offered by Shutterfly, Artifact Uprising, or another online album maker of your choice—can double as a spot to stash your photos.

To keep on top of the process, try to print off photos (or make another photo book!) at least once every six months or so to keep your digital footprint more manageable. Physical pictures can be stored in an archival photo box until you’re ready to sit down and add them to your album. Do you have a camera roll that’s in the thousands and not sure where to even start? Apps like Picnic can help you weed through all those screenshots and selfies to narrow the pool and determine which pictures are worth space in your next album.

Certain upgrades, like flatlay pages and hard covers, are available for an extra cost.

While the customization and style options aren’t as robust as those of other brands, using Walgreens can eliminate decision fatigue while also still granting you a beautiful way to showcase your memories. Every good crafter knows the best hobbies are the ones that don’t feel like work. They’re the projects you reach for when you want to relax, unwind, and do something creative without overthinking every step. That’s exactly what makes latch hook kits so appealing—they turn a simple, hands-on yarn craft into something anyone can try. So what is latch hooking, exactly? This beginner-friendly craft is easier to learn than crochet or knitting, and still just as satisfying. It works by knotting short pieces of pre-cut yarn onto a grid to create a cozy, textured design like a rug or pillow.

Whether you’re shopping for craft kits for adults or creative projects for kids, you’ll find plenty of latch hook kits that work for all ages and come with everything you need to get started. Try one and you’ll quickly see how hard it is to put down! It’s the kind of craft that starts with “just one more row”—and turns into hours of fun.

Latch hooking is a simple crafting technique where you use a small hook tool to pull pieces of yarn through a mesh canvas and knot them in place. Over time, the loops build up to create a thick, textured design, often displayed on a pillow or rug. The whole project comes together one section at a time, and before you know it, you’ll have a finished masterpiece for your home.

The first thing to consider is who the kit is for and what kind of project you want to make. Kids and beginners usually do well with smaller kits that have bold, colorful designs and pre-cut yarn to keep things simple. Larger kits with more colors and textures are great for adults who want a more detailed, statement-making piece. It also helps to check whether the kit comes complete with everything you need (and luckily, many do), so you don’t have to buy any extra supplies.

Great news—you can skip that extra trip to the craft store! Most latch hook kits are designed so you can open the box and start crafting right away. They typically include a printed mesh canvas, pre-cut yarn pieces, and a latch hook tool. Many also come with instructions that show you how to get started and follow the pattern. Higher-quality kits may include extra yarn, finished edges, hanging loops, or a non-slip backing.

01

CRAFT CLUB Forest Floor Moss Rug Latch Hook Kit

Amazon

$179.00

This unique kit is perfect for nature lovers, with layered greens and specialty yarns like chenille, feather, and bobble that make the finished rug look like real moss from the forest floor. Once you’re done, the large size makes it a true statement piece for a bedroom, bathroom, or any cozy corner that could use a little down-to-earth charm.

02

LatchKits Puppy Latch Hook Kit

Amazon

$21.40

Want to get the kids in on your new favorite hobby? This latch hook kit is made for little hands, with a color-coded canvas and pre-cut yarn so there’s no cutting, sewing, or guessing involved. When it’s finished, the hanging loops make it easy for kids to show off their puppy as wall decor or use it as a cozy mini rug in their room.

03

Tachiuwa Coaster Latch Hook Kits

Walmart

$10.54

Small (and ridiculously cute!) coasters are an easy and affordable way for beginners to learn the craft of latch hooking. The kit even comes with everything you need to get started, from the yarn to the latch hook tool itself.

04

YAKOLECI Waterfall Latch Hook Kit

Amazon

$23.99

Fans of latch hooking say the craft’s repetitive motions and easy-to-follow patterns are a nice stress reliever after a long day. A tranquil design—like this waterfall, for example—will only add to the calming vibes.

05

Thecraftscollectives A Bounty of Oranges Latch Hook Rug Kit

Etsy

$82.34

Latch hook rug kits might seem complicated and intimidating to beginners, but even a newbie can learn how to do a design as intricate as this colorful piece. “I love this kit,” says one reviewer. “It’s well packaged, and the materials are high quality. I also appreciated the included instructions and the QR code linking to a video on how to do latch hook.”

06

Floral Pillow Cover Latch Hook Kit

Amazon

$22.98

Whether you have lots of experience or are just ambitious from the jump, latch hook pillow kits are a satisfying way to pass the time—and you get a beautiful keepsake in the process. Note: This particular project is for the pillowcase only, so you’ll need to buy your own pillow insert separately.

07

ShowNiceArt Latch Hook Dog Head Rug Kit

Etsy

$29.99

The best latch hook kits also make good gifts, whether it’s because you want to treat a crafty loved one with a new project to undertake or plan to make the piece yourself as a thoughtful gesture. We love this playful rug for any proud pet parents you know—it’s as soft as a puppy’s fur and just as adorable.

08

Creatology Donut Latch Hook Kit

Michaels

$9.99

Most reviewers say this cheerful donut kit as a fun project for kids, though it’s certainly brought joy to several adult crafters as well. “A nice hobby to work on to help unwind at the end of the day,” wrote one. “Plus, it’s cute!”

09

Herrschners Poinsettia Star Tree Skirt Latch Hook Kit

Amazon

$44.99

It’s never too soon to start thinking about Christmas decorations, honestly, and that’s especially true if you plan to make anything by hand. Get into the holiday spirit early with this tree skirt kit. Maybe even break out some hot cocoa to sip on while you craft to really set the mood.

10

Trilliumbutton Cosmetic Bag Latch Hook Kit

Etsy

$15.06

Because of its shaggy texture, you’ll mostly find latch hook kits for rugs, pillows, and wall art. This bag design is a fun way to mix it up, and you’ll have a charming little coin purse or cosmetic case to use at the end.

Is latch hooking hard for beginners?

Latch hooking is very beginner-friendly because the technique itself is simple and repetitive and doesn’t require any sewing or advanced skills. Once you learn how to pull the yarn through and close the hook, the rest is as easy as following the pattern. Color-coded canvases and pre-cut yarn make it even easier, especially for first-timers. It’s a great confidence-building craft if you’re trying something new.

It’s always a good idea to discover new hobbies to try, and what better time than the beginning of a new year? This period offers a fresh opportunity to think about the skills you want to learn or build upon, so you can expand your knowledge and have a whole lot of fun in the process, too. People search for new hobbies for plenty of good reasons: Maybe you want to hone in on an activity you’ve always been interested in; make time for yourself in a productive and creative way; or even just embrace your curiosity about a subject you know little about. Hobbies are good for the mind, body, and soul. It’s never a bad time to start something new!

Think about how you typically like to spend a free day and go from there. If you consider yourself a foodie, diving into a new cooking or baking technique might be an enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Love a cozy home? Find a home improvement project or DIY hobby that’s both exciting and productive. For those who like to get outside, gardening could be a calming and rewarding activity. And craft kits are an increasingly popular, low-lift way for beginners to learn a new skill. We’ve found eleven exciting new hobbies for you to try in the year ahead—but consider these just the start, because there is a whole world of crafts, projects, and more to explore!

How to Choose a Hobby

Start with a big list of activities that interest you, and slowly work your way into a smaller cluster of ideas. You can start by naming the things you enjoyed as a kid, or listing the habits you keep coming back to now. Then, think about what you want to achieve out of your new hobby. Do you want to learn a new skill? Make healthy habits? Focus on your creativity? Keep crossing off hobbies until you get to a few that fit what you’re looking for, and select the one that stands out to you most. You aren’t limited to one idea, but it helps to start things off simple and slow so you can stay consistent with it.

How to Make Time for Your Hobbies

It may sound cliché, but the best way to make time for your hobbies is to prioritize them! Consistency is key, so make your hobby a habit. You can schedule it into your calendar as a repeat appointment once a week for an easy reminder, integrate it into your daily routine (like listening to an audiobook on your work commute), or even join a club based around your hobby to keep yourself accountable—and make friends along the way! Below, take a look at some fun new hobbies to try this year, and enjoy learning something new.

01

Junk Journaling

junk journaling supplies

Junk journaling is like a mix of scrapbooking, collaging, and memorabilia all in one. Think of it as a physical brain dump, or a personal catalogue of experiences and fun life moments inside one paper journal. Inside, you can include photographs, clips of newspapers, receipts, stickers, ticket stubs, mail, and so much more. It’s a fun way to get creative and chronicle memorable moments.

02

Artisan Pizzas

a man and woman making a pizza at home

If you can’t decide between taking up cooking or baking as a pastime, you can have the best of both with artisan pizza making. Tap into your creativity by coming up with new, unexpected topping and dough combinations, or challenge yourself to use a different small kitchen appliance each time. By summer, you’ll be making pies in your outdoor pizza oven for everyone on the block.

03

Diamond Painting

Many find paint-by-numbers, coloring pages, and cross stitch to be calming arts and crafts because you keep your hands (and mind) busy while following a simple pattern. That’s also the appeal of diamond painting, a relatively newer art form that works for all skill levels. Each diamond painting craft kit comes with a printed design to let you know where to place each colored resin rhinestone, with the end result being a sparkly, shimmery work of art.

04

Yoga

woman doing yoga at home

How does having better flexibility, strength, and mindfulness this year sound? Yeah, we thought so. Yoga—which combines poses with breathing exercises and moving meditation—has all of those benefits and more. Plus, each pose can easily be adjusted to your level. You don’t have to leave the house to get started, either: Many classes and tutorials are available online, so all you need in your at-home gym is a yoga mat and a willingness to try.

05

Birdwatching

older woman and young girl bird watching

Birdwatching has become an increasingly popular pastime in recent years, and it’s not hard to see why this calming and low-cost hobby has taken off. Birds are everywhere! It’s totally free—and great exercise—to walk in a local park and observe the nature around you. Or, hang a hummingbird feeder from your porch and make some flying friends from the comfort of your own home. Convinced? Buy one of these highly-rated bird feeders and follow the National Audubon Society’s guide for how to start birding to begin.

06

Herb Gardening

set of hands tending to potted herbs

Planning a garden can be overwhelming to beginners, so it might help to focus on one lane to start. While there are several easy flowers to grow, herb gardening is an especially rewarding hobby because of all the practical uses that come with it. Elevate the dishes you cook with the herbs you’ve cultivated or incorporate them into a second hobby, like making aromatherapy candles.

07

Woodworking

man carving a wooden decorative shelf

Woodworking can be as complex or as simple a hobby as you want it to be, but challenging yourself is part of the fun. You might start out making small decorative objects like picture frames or floating shelves. Then, graduate to making DIY bean bag toss games for your yard or other DIY projects around the house. Once you gain enough skills, you’ll finally be able to turn that hard-to-style corner into the reading nook of your dreams.

08

Upcycling Furniture

two women painting a side table

For a satisfying hobby that also happens to be sustainable and eco-friendly, try your hand at redoing broken or unwanted furniture around the house. You’d be surprised how much a fresh coat of paint, updated drawer pulls, or a different wood stain can transform an old dresser or side table.

09

Pickling or Canning

woman pickling vegetables

The best part about a pickling or canning hobby is that everyone benefits from it. All the creative jams, artisanal pickles, and other treats you make can become a thoughtful gift for family members, friends, and neighbors. So put that fancy new blender or food processor you got from the holidays to use and start making yummy salsa!

10

Knitting

man knitting

Always second screening while you stream your favorite shows? Knitting is a better-for-your-brain alternative that still keeps your hands and brain busy at the end of the day without all that blue light. Plus, you get a super snuggly blanket out of it.

11

Cider-Making

woman making apple cider

Home-brewing has become a popular hobby in recent years, but it’s not one you can necessarily share with the whole family. Instead, try making small-batch cider. You can still build out an impressive home bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions. Time to turn that wine fridge into a cider fridge!

What hobby should I try if I’m stressed?

If you’re looking for a hobby that’ll help calm your nerves or keep stress at bay, you’re in luck! There are plenty of activities that are perfect for stress relief, including:

  • Painting
  • Music
  • Journaling
  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Gardening
  • Reading
  • Running
  • Knitting

But the best option is the one that you stay consistent with and that makes you feel fulfilled.

Winter break always starts out feeling magical—but once the no-school novelty wears off, parents everywhere find themselves asking the same question: “Okay…now what?” The good news is that with a few simple family activities to get you through winter break, you can turn those long, dark days into unforgettable memories. From DIY holiday crafts that spark creativity to family board games that get the whole house laughing, winter break is the perfect time to come together for some good old-fashioned (and phone-free!) fun.

You don’t need expensive outings or elaborate activities to make the most of your time off, either. In fact, many of these ideas use things you already have at home. So whether your crew loves cooking, reading, building, or just being a little silly, these family-friendly activities work for kids of all ages and can make the week feel special instead of stressful. Let the break (and the bonding) begin!

Grab some old photos and make a simple family tree that goes back as far as you can remember. It’s fun, easy, and free—plus, little ones will love hearing the family stories that pop up along the way. Best of all, when you’re done, you’ll have a meaningful keepsake that the kids can keep adding to as they grow.

Bookworms young and old will love this one! Pick a book that feels doable for everyone, whether it’s something brand new or a nostalgic favorite you loved as a kid. Depending on your family’s style, you can read it aloud together or let everyone read at their own pace throughout the week. When the weekend rolls around, gather with snacks and drinks and chat about the parts you loved most. It’s such an easy tradition to start—and it makes reading feel a whole lot more fun than homework!

Want to turn a normal lunch or dinner into an event? Kids get a thrill out of pretending to be little chefs and servers, so transform your kitchen or living room into a restaurant with a few easy touches like fancy napkins, a “specials” board, or a makeshift host stand. Then watch their imaginations run wild as they come up with a silly name for the restaurant, design menus, and plan a simple meal to serve you. Order up for fun!

With New Year’s on the horizon, there’s no better time to reflect on your year together. Grab a shoebox and let each family member add a few things that represent their year, such as photos, drawings, cards, or ticket stubs. Seal it, decorate it, and hide it somewhere safe—then get excited about the big reveal next year.

These are so fun to make! Have them cut out pictures and words from magazines that speak to what they’re hoping to achieve in the following year. It could be making the soccer team, getting straight As, having more slumber parties—whatever they want. It’ll get everyone excited for 2025.

There’s something incredibly nostalgic about a blanket fort. Find out how you can set it up, and afterwards all you have to decide is what snacks and blankets you’re going to bring into your cozy den.

Does anything feel better than belting out your favorite tunes and jumping around the living room? That’s exactly why you need to host a family karaoke dance party. You can find a lot of videos on YouTube to help guide you, or have everyone queue up their favorites and hope for the best. (It’s just as fun!) When you’re done, add the songs to a playlist so you can remember and enjoy for years to come.

It’s very likely that everyone has their holiday decorations up, so you might as well enjoy them with a good, old-fashioned stroll. You can admire everyone’s handiwork while getting a little exercise, too.

This one’s a classic! There are a ton of great gingerbread house kits that you can buy online, but you can also go the extra mile and make the gingerbread and its accessories at home. Not only will it take up a good chunk of time, but it’ll also get the little ones using their hands and having fun in the kitchen with you.

Hear us out—this doesn’t have to be boring! While everyone’s together in the house, this is the perfect time to go through their closets and donate anything they don’t like or doesn’t fit anymore. Make it fun by turning it into a little fashion show, complete with accessories and a catwalk.

If your family loves escape rooms like Jonathan (it was his and Zooey’s first date!), then making your very own scavenger hunt could be a blast for the whole crew. A fun way to make it interesting for the kids? Whoever wins gets to open one of their presents early this year.

With plenty of craft kits for both kids and adults out there right now, why not get a little crafty and hand-make something new? It could be as simple as a paper snowflake or as complex as a snow village painting kit. And doing it together makes everything ten times more fun!

Our DrewandJonathan.com team has a whole bunch of free, printable holiday coloring pages for your family to tackle. They range from intricate gingerbread houses and ornaments to simpler snowman-themed sheets, so there’s a little something for every age range.

‘Tis the season, after all! If you’re up for it, take the whole family to a local ice skating rink and put your skills to the test. Even if someone isn’t that interested, they can still sit on the sidelines with a cup of cocoa and cheer everyone else on. Don’t forget to bundle up!

Speaking of hot cocoa, another fun activity is creating a fabulous hot chocolate bar at home and cuddling up with the coziest blankets for a family movie night. We have all the tips and tricks you need here, so all you’ll have to do is grab the supplies and pick the film. If that’s always the hardest part, have everyone write an idea on a piece of paper and then choose one out of a hat.

After all that holly jolly-ing, you might be sick of the cold! Plan a tropical “vacation day” at an indoor waterpark. Or if there’s not one nearby, have the kids craft fun props while you cook warm-weather snacks to set the mood. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

Chances are, you aren’t the only parent looking for ways to keep the little ones entertained. Grab one of your favorite board games and invite your pals over for a night of friendly competition. Depending on the size of the group, you can have one table for kids and one for adults, or you can everyone play against each other. Make the hosting part easy by going potluck-style and asking everyone to bring their favorite snack.

We can’t imagine a cooler way to sneak in a little science at home than by making these crystals from Mommy Musings. Not only are they super easy to make and require only a few ingredients, but they are also great for a wide age range of youngsters. This might be the first time your kids head back to school bragging about their winter break.

If you’re planning on making some fun design additions to your home, this upcycling wall art from Nicole Olea can go to the top of your to-do list. You’ll be able to get the whole family involved, reuse old T-shirts that you can’t bear to get rid of, and fill your walls with some pretty, personal decor.

Kids always go nuts at the mere mention of the word “slime,” and adding another buzzword—“mermaid”—in there will totally blow their minds. This glorious, gooey craft from Ever After in the Woods is a fun, hands-on activity for kids of all ages and perfect for a dreary afternoon. Just make sure they don’t eat it!

Curing the winter blues gets a whole lot easier with this kitchen takeover idea from Eighty MPH Mom. This is a great one for high-schoolers who like to experiment and are familiar (and can be trusted) with the oven. Feel free to sit back, relax, and let the kids take over the kitchen—including cleanup!

Your kids will never complain about being bored again after they plan, produce, and star in a family talent show! Clear out room for a “stage” in your living room, invite your friends and neighbors, and make a whole night out of it. This tutorial from Our Family Lifestyle even shows you how to make it happen on a budget.

If you let your kiddos stay up until midnight to ring in the new year, this giant balloon countdown clock from The Suburban Mom will help them make the most of it. While waiting for the magical ball to drop, the whole family can pass the time by discussing their goals and dreams for 2024.

Your kids will look forward to coming in from playing in the snow if they get to jump into a warm tub infused with one of these snowflake bath bombs from The Afropolitan Mom. Scented with essential oils, they are safe for sensitive skin and can double as festive treats for friends and family.

Get the kids out of the house (and give your cookie cutters some extra love) with these no-bake bird feeders from The Neighborhood Moms. Kids will get an up-close look at the wildlife that lives right in their backyard and learn compassion for them at the same time.

No need to break out the sewing machine for these cozy accessories! Mix and match prints with all the fleece that will be on sale after the holidays, then follow these straightforward instructions from Easy Peasy Creative. Your whole family can be twinning—and oh so warm—in no time.

With the ho-ho-holidays right around the corner, Jonathan’s Christmas spirit is growing by the minute! His house is decked out with the most amazing holiday decorations in dreamy sugar plum style, from his collection of adorable nutcrackers to the glittery ornaments adorning his trees (look out for this year’s reveal soon!). With the help of Stephen Brown from Glitterville Studios, he’s made his home into a proper winter wonderland. And now we’re sharing some of that same incredible holiday-making magic with you! Stephen’s giving you the steps to a few of his amazing DIY Christmas decorations so you can get the look at home.

We all love the sparkly magic that Stephen brings to his collection of sweet holiday decor—from beautiful hand-painted ornaments to lifelike gingerbread figurines and signature Papa Noel designs that showcase a jolly Santa Claus in all sorts of creative ceramic forms. So if you want to mirror his aesthetic, watch the video above and follow along with him as he shows you three adorable (and easy!) Christmas DIYs that you can make today, with step-by-step instructions and a whole lot of holiday inspiration.

Faux Snow

“In this project, there’s 100% chance of snow,” Stephen says. And all you need to make your home into a winter wonderland is shaving cream and white school glue! Here’s how to make it happen:

  1. Squeeze out some of that foamy shaving cream in a measuring cup and put it into a bowl.
  2. Squeeze out about half the amount of school glue and add that into the same bowl.
  3. Mix with a spoon. You want the mix to look similar to marshmallow fluff—not too thick and not too thin.
  4. Brush your decor (Christmas trees, figurines, wreaths, etc.) with the mix, and sprinkle with glitter for a sparkly final touch. Stephen prefers German glass glitter, but any will do.

Artificial Christmas Sweets

“These are artificial sweets that you can use in all of your displays,” Stephen says. For this project, you’ll need silicone molds of various sweet treats, Plaster of Paris, water, acrylic paint, and Kwik Seal bathtub calk.

  1. Take a measuring cup of Plaster of Paris and pour into a glass bowl.
  2. Add water and mix until the consistency is similar to pancake batter.
  3. Empty into silicone dessert-shape molds and let rest.
  4. After the mold has hardened, you can remove and paint/decorate as you like! In the video above, Stephen designs a faux figgy pudding.
  5. Once the paint has dried, you can add “frosting” with the bathtub calk and finish off with glitter. Are you catching on that you can never have enough glitter!?

Glitter Ornaments

“These are like creating Old World Christmas glass for your tree,” he says. You’ll need clear glass ball ornaments, floor wax, a funnel, and of course, colorful glitter!

  1. Remove the top of your ball ornaments.
  2. Pour a little floor wax into the opening of the ball.
  3. Cover the top with your thumb and shake.
  4. Pour any residue back into the floor wax bottle.
  5. Using a funnel, pour some glitter into the ball.
  6. Cover the top with your thumb and shake again.
  7. Pour out any remaining glitter.
  8. Continue to pour glitter in the colors of your choice (he recommends mixing colors!), and cover and shake until the inside is completely coated.
  9. Place the cap back on top of the ball and finish off with a pretty ribbon for hanging.

We hope you had fun making these sweet Christmas crafts!
