Wondering about the secret to the perfect spring break? Hint: It’s less about what you do and more about who you do it with. And what’s better than a long break with family? Whether your crew is staying close to home this year or planning a big getaway, there are plenty of creative ideas and fun things to do for spring break that will help you make the most of your time together.

The best part? You don’t need a busy itinerary to keep everyone entertained. Sometimes a family beach day, an afternoon of mini golf, or even just a picnic at your favorite local park can feel just as fun and special as a week-long vacation. And when the weather doesn’t cooperate, there are still plenty of cozy options to fall back on, like an all-day game tournament, creative crafts, or a family cook-off. If you’re looking for ways to keep kids active, engaged, and off their screens this spring break, these fun ideas are sure to make your week off one you won’t forget.

Mini golf just might be the perfect family spring break activity. It’s easy, affordable, fun for all ages, and it gets everyone outdoors and off screens. Depending on your crew’s style, you can play as casually or competitively as you like, while enjoying plenty of opportunities for talking and bonding. Plus, kids will love the themed obstacles like castles or waterfalls that bring a playful, whimsical touch to the game.

Family game night is a classic for a reason. Kick things up a notch by turning it into an all-day tournament where everyone gets to pick their favorite board game, card game, or even video game. Add a scoreboard and a few snacks and small prizes, and you’ve got an easy way to keep everyone entertained and engaged on rainy spring break days.

Pack up your picnic basket and head to your go-to local park for a little escape into nature nearby. With your picnic blanket as home base, kids can play tag, toss a frisbee, and have good old-fashioned fun in the sun, all while enjoying their favorite drinks and snacks. Complete the outing with a relaxing bike ride or short hike for a full day of smiles.

For families looking for excitement, visiting an amusement park can be the perfect way to spend the day. Enjoy roller coasters, games, and plenty of fun attractions. It doesn’t matter if it’s a day trip to a small, local theme park or a full vacation to a larger destination, the thrills will keep everyone entertained.

A road trip is a great way to explore new destinations without going too far. Plan a route to a nearby city, national park, or other scenic spots and enjoy some family bonding time (complete with road trip games) on the open road. You’ll make memories while discovering new places along the way, too.

Set up a tent in your own backyard and experience the fun of camping without leaving home. Roast marshmallows, tell stories around the fire, and enjoy the fresh air—all from the comfort of your own space. This is a simple, affordable activity that will make lasting memories. And if the weather isn’t ideal, you can always build an indoor fort!

A beach getaway is an easy and restorative way to have fun in the sun. Whether you’re flying to a dream destination or taking a road trip to a nearby beach town, spending time swimming or being near the water, building sandcastles, and relaxing will make for an unforgettable spring break experience.

Take a day trip to a local museum and explore art, history, or science together. Many museums offer interactive exhibits that kids will love, and it combines fun with learning. Don’t forget to check for any special spring break events or discounted admissions!

If your family enjoys the outdoors, take advantage of the spring weather with a family hike. Choose a nearby trail, and enjoy a walk surrounded by nature. Hiking makes it easy to bond, stay active, and explore new environments. Plus, you can likely bring your dog, too.

Try something new with the time off! Sign up for a family art class, pottery session, or cooking lesson. It’s a fun way to learn something together and make memories while developing new skills.

Teach your kids the importance of giving back by volunteering as a family. You could pitch in at your local Habitat for Humanity, or help at a food bank, clean up a park, or assist at a local animal shelter. Volunteering is a rewarding experience that brings the family closer.

Turn your backyard into a theater with a DIY outdoor movie night. Set up a projector and a screen (you can even use a sheet if you need to!), make some popcorn, and watch a family-friendly film under the stars. This is a cozy and fun way to spend the evening together, or you can invite your neighbors and make it an annual event.

Spring break and baseball season go hand in hand. Grab some tickets to see a local game and enjoy the atmosphere of the stadium. Whether it’s a major league team or a college game, it’s a fun outing for all ages.

Knock out two birds with one stone and set up a spring cleaning challenge with your kids. Assign them all chores and set up rewards depending on how quickly they get them done. The overall winner gets the top prize, like choosing a special dinner or the movie that night.

For a family-friendly activity that’s both fun and educational, head to a local aquarium. Kids will love learning about marine life and may even get to interact with sea creatures like starfish or stingrays. It’s an excellent spring break activity for animal lovers.

DIY projects like our coloring pages make passing the time easy, especially if the weather isn’t nice. You could also tackle a craft as a group, whether that’s learning how to crochet together or spending a day designing your own air dry clay creations. Whatever you do, don’t forget to display the finished product on your bookshelf or coffee table.

Host a family cooking challenge and get creative in the kitchen. Pick a theme, like making homemade pizza or baking cookies, and let each family member contribute. Not only will you create delicious dishes, but you’ll have fun working together.

Take a trip to a nearby farm and enjoy a day of farm activities. Many farms offer opportunities to pet animals, pick fresh fruits, or even try horseback riding. It’s an engaging and educational experience that’s perfect for families.

You or your older kids can set up clues to guide the younger ones through a fun scavenger hunt. Or, if you’re short on time, you can snag premade options on Etsy or Amazon, too.

When is Spring Break 2026?

Spring break in 2026 will vary depending on the school district, but most U.S. schools schedule their breaks between early March and the end of March. Nationwide data from MDR Education shows that the week of March 29, 2026 starts the peak spring break week, with nearly 30% of schools on break. There’s another smaller peak around March 15, while April tends to be quieter overall. As always, it’s a good idea to check your local school district’s calendar for exact dates.

Drew and Linda are parents to two little toddlers, Parker and Piper. So having the right organization tools is essential for them to manage their busy family life—especially in the kitchen. It’s the heart of the home, which also means it’s where things can get the most chaotic. If you have a little sous chef running around, too, then you need some kid-friendly kitchen hacks to make sure the space works for them and their tiny hands. That’s why Drew is here with his best tips for keeping your cooking area a safe and fun place for every member of the family.

The kitchen shouldn’t feel dangerous or off-limits to your tots—everyone should feel comfortable cooking, cleaning, and connecting with one another. And as parents, this means you want to make sure you’re taking precautions for your kiddos where you can! Drew is taking us through the simple additions he and Linda have made in their kitchen to make it an organized zone that everyone can enjoy. Watch the full video above to find out exactly what he swears by in their cooking space, and get more ideas below, too.

1. Use Double-Duty Furniture

It’s easy for the amount of kids’ stuff to accumulate—before you know it, it can feel like there’s no room for anything else! That’s why double-duty kids furniture is so great. Drew has a fun piece that Parker and Piper love that can transform from a step stool into a toddlers’ table in seconds, snapping into place with locks to ensure safety. It’s simple, smart solutions like these that help a ton on organization and space-saving.

2. Incorporate Playful and Educational Pieces

Playful and educational touches—like letter and number magnets on the fridge or setting up an easel where the kids can practice writing—can help foster an environment where tots feel welcome hanging out alongside you in the kitchen. After all, it’s the heart of the home, and it’s a place for them, too!

3. Consider an Induction Range

Induction ranges offer an added layer of safety since they don’t get hot to the touch like gas ranges do. And for those tiny hands you love, that means one less thing to worry about when they’re helping you in the kitchen.

4. Add Safety Features Like Straps & Locks

One thing about kids and toddlers? They sure are curious! Adding simple safety straps to the oven and cabinets, and any other places that you don’t want your little ones rummaging through, can help keep them safe from accidents and prevent any let’s-empty-the-entire-drawer-of-cooking-utensils parties.

5. Avoid Mess With Hands-Free Hacks

Going hands-free in a messy zone can really help cut back on the ick and stick that can come from cooking (especially with kids!). In Drew’s home, they installed a little mechanism that will open up the cabinet garbage just by pushing in on the door. Nothing fancy here—just a little arm installed behind the cabinet door and voilà, you have yourself a hands-free setup!

6. Put Family Schedules on Display

It’s easier to keep track of your busy schedules when they’re all up on the wall for quick reference! In Drew’s house, they use a large digital calendar that has everything they and their team needs to get through the day, from schedule changes to pickup times, meals, travel dates, and even when the little ones need to brush their teeth.

7. Make the Pantry Work for Everyone

…Yes, including the kiddos! When they’re helping you cook, clean, or put away groceries, they need to get into these zones, too. So simple additions, like pull-out drawers in the pantry or a step stool under the sink, can give them the confidence to move around these spaces and help out.

8. Label Drawers & Containers

In the pantry, a label-maker is pretty much a must. (Jonathan and Zooey use one in their kitchen pantry too!) This way, it’s easier for everyone in the house to know exactly where ingredients, snacks, and canned goods live, and grab them quickly without having to rip apart the whole cabinet.

7 Adorable Kids’ Bedroom Ideas from Our Shows

Customers find this kit fun to use and easy to apply, with one raving about the “brilliant, stunning results.”

Is it better to dye Easter eggs cold or warm?

When it comes to dyeing Easter eggs, cooled eggs are the safer and easier option, in part because bacteria can grow when eggs sit out at warmer temperatures for too long. After boiling your eggs, wait for them to cool down completely, and then use a dye bath at room temperature. In addition to being food-safe, cooled eggs are also much easier to handle and paint, and less likely to crack while you’re decorating.

Calling all slime lovers! Your child will be excited to add this Valentine’s Day-themed slime to their ever-growing collection. Designed to be reminiscent of the classic Conversation Hearts, this butter-based slime is topped off with cute candy-inspired sprinkles and scented like Sweet Tarts.

When it comes to classroom Valentines, the best gifts are small, affordable, and easy to hand out while still feeling fun and thoughtful. Here are some ideas that are perfect for spreading a little love without creating extra clutter or a sugar overload.

  • Mini play dough or slime tubs with a Valentine’s tag
  • Heart-shaped crayons or themed pencil packs
  • Temporary tattoos or sticker sheets
  • Bubbles with a “You make my heart pop!” note
  • Small notebooks or activity pads
  • Friendship bracelets or stretchy heart rings
  • Bookmarks paired with a Valentine’s card
  • Mini puzzles or fidget toys
  • Glow sticks with a “You light up our class” message
  • Seed packets for flowers with a “Let friendship grow” note

Candy is a classic Valentine’s Day gift, but it’s not always the best option for every child. Some kids have allergies, sensitivities, or parents who prefer to limit sugar, while others just appreciate something that lasts longer than a few minutes. Non-candy gifts can feel just as festive while giving kids something they can use, play with, or keep.

  • Small stuffed animals or plush keychains
  • Valentine-themed socks
  • Craft kits or DIY bracelet sets
  • Mini block sets or building toys
  • Coloring books with crayons or markers
  • Fidget toys like pop-its or stress balls
  • Cute water bottles or snack containers
  • Bath toys or fun bath bombs for kids
  • Storybooks with a love or friendship theme
  • Pajamas or cozy slippers

These options still feel special and celebratory, but they give kids something a little more lasting than candy.

Character toys from major franchises like Bluey, Ms. Rachel, and Minecraft are all huge, along with STEM gifts that help kids explore music, building, fashion design, or early science skills. Screen-free items like board games, scooters, DIY kits, and hands-on craft sets are still big winners. Winter break always starts out feeling magical—but once the no-school novelty wears off, parents everywhere find themselves asking the same question: “Okay…now what?” The good news is that with a few simple family activities to get you through winter break, you can turn those long, dark days into unforgettable memories. From DIY holiday crafts that spark creativity to family board games that get the whole house laughing, winter break is the perfect time to come together for some good old-fashioned (and phone-free!) fun.

You don’t need expensive outings or elaborate activities to make the most of your time off, either. In fact, many of these ideas use things you already have at home. So whether your crew loves cooking, reading, building, or just being a little silly, these family-friendly activities work for kids of all ages and can make the week feel special instead of stressful. Let the break (and the bonding) begin!

Grab some old photos and make a simple family tree that goes back as far as you can remember. It’s fun, easy, and free—plus, little ones will love hearing the family stories that pop up along the way. Best of all, when you’re done, you’ll have a meaningful keepsake that the kids can keep adding to as they grow.

Bookworms young and old will love this one! Pick a book that feels doable for everyone, whether it’s something brand new or a nostalgic favorite you loved as a kid. Depending on your family’s style, you can read it aloud together or let everyone read at their own pace throughout the week. When the weekend rolls around, gather with snacks and drinks and chat about the parts you loved most. It’s such an easy tradition to start—and it makes reading feel a whole lot more fun than homework!

Want to turn a normal lunch or dinner into an event? Kids get a thrill out of pretending to be little chefs and servers, so transform your kitchen or living room into a restaurant with a few easy touches like fancy napkins, a “specials” board, or a makeshift host stand. Then watch their imaginations run wild as they come up with a silly name for the restaurant, design menus, and plan a simple meal to serve you. Order up for fun!

With New Year’s on the horizon, there’s no better time to reflect on your year together. Grab a shoebox and let each family member add a few things that represent their year, such as photos, drawings, cards, or ticket stubs. Seal it, decorate it, and hide it somewhere safe—then get excited about the big reveal next year.

These are so fun to make! Have them cut out pictures and words from magazines that speak to what they’re hoping to achieve in the following year. It could be making the soccer team, getting straight As, having more slumber parties—whatever they want. It’ll get everyone excited for 2025.

There’s something incredibly nostalgic about a blanket fort. Find out how you can set it up, and afterwards all you have to decide is what snacks and blankets you’re going to bring into your cozy den.

Does anything feel better than belting out your favorite tunes and jumping around the living room? That’s exactly why you need to host a family karaoke dance party. You can find a lot of videos on YouTube to help guide you, or have everyone queue up their favorites and hope for the best. (It’s just as fun!) When you’re done, add the songs to a playlist so you can remember and enjoy for years to come.

It’s very likely that everyone has their holiday decorations up, so you might as well enjoy them with a good, old-fashioned stroll. You can admire everyone’s handiwork while getting a little exercise, too.

This one’s a classic! There are a ton of great gingerbread house kits that you can buy online, but you can also go the extra mile and make the gingerbread and its accessories at home. Not only will it take up a good chunk of time, but it’ll also get the little ones using their hands and having fun in the kitchen with you.

Hear us out—this doesn’t have to be boring! While everyone’s together in the house, this is the perfect time to go through their closets and donate anything they don’t like or doesn’t fit anymore. Make it fun by turning it into a little fashion show, complete with accessories and a catwalk.

If your family loves escape rooms like Jonathan (it was his and Zooey’s first date!), then making your very own scavenger hunt could be a blast for the whole crew. A fun way to make it interesting for the kids? Whoever wins gets to open one of their presents early this year.

With plenty of craft kits for both kids and adults out there right now, why not get a little crafty and hand-make something new? It could be as simple as a paper snowflake or as complex as a snow village painting kit. And doing it together makes everything ten times more fun!

Our DrewandJonathan.com team has a whole bunch of free, printable holiday coloring pages for your family to tackle. They range from intricate gingerbread houses and ornaments to simpler snowman-themed sheets, so there’s a little something for every age range.

‘Tis the season, after all! If you’re up for it, take the whole family to a local ice skating rink and put your skills to the test. Even if someone isn’t that interested, they can still sit on the sidelines with a cup of cocoa and cheer everyone else on. Don’t forget to bundle up!

Speaking of hot cocoa, another fun activity is creating a fabulous hot chocolate bar at home and cuddling up with the coziest blankets for a family movie night. We have all the tips and tricks you need here, so all you’ll have to do is grab the supplies and pick the film. If that’s always the hardest part, have everyone write an idea on a piece of paper and then choose one out of a hat.

After all that holly jolly-ing, you might be sick of the cold! Plan a tropical “vacation day” at an indoor waterpark. Or if there’s not one nearby, have the kids craft fun props while you cook warm-weather snacks to set the mood. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

Chances are, you aren’t the only parent looking for ways to keep the little ones entertained. Grab one of your favorite board games and invite your pals over for a night of friendly competition. Depending on the size of the group, you can have one table for kids and one for adults, or you can everyone play against each other. Make the hosting part easy by going potluck-style and asking everyone to bring their favorite snack.

We can’t imagine a cooler way to sneak in a little science at home than by making these crystals from Mommy Musings. Not only are they super easy to make and require only a few ingredients, but they are also great for a wide age range of youngsters. This might be the first time your kids head back to school bragging about their winter break.

If you’re planning on making some fun design additions to your home, this upcycling wall art from Nicole Olea can go to the top of your to-do list. You’ll be able to get the whole family involved, reuse old T-shirts that you can’t bear to get rid of, and fill your walls with some pretty, personal decor.

Kids always go nuts at the mere mention of the word “slime,” and adding another buzzword—“mermaid”—in there will totally blow their minds. This glorious, gooey craft from Ever After in the Woods is a fun, hands-on activity for kids of all ages and perfect for a dreary afternoon. Just make sure they don’t eat it!

Curing the winter blues gets a whole lot easier with this kitchen takeover idea from Eighty MPH Mom. This is a great one for high-schoolers who like to experiment and are familiar (and can be trusted) with the oven. Feel free to sit back, relax, and let the kids take over the kitchen—including cleanup!

Your kids will never complain about being bored again after they plan, produce, and star in a family talent show! Clear out room for a “stage” in your living room, invite your friends and neighbors, and make a whole night out of it. This tutorial from Our Family Lifestyle even shows you how to make it happen on a budget.

If you let your kiddos stay up until midnight to ring in the new year, this giant balloon countdown clock from The Suburban Mom will help them make the most of it. While waiting for the magical ball to drop, the whole family can pass the time by discussing their goals and dreams for 2024.

Your kids will look forward to coming in from playing in the snow if they get to jump into a warm tub infused with one of these snowflake bath bombs from The Afropolitan Mom. Scented with essential oils, they are safe for sensitive skin and can double as festive treats for friends and family.

Get the kids out of the house (and give your cookie cutters some extra love) with these no-bake bird feeders from The Neighborhood Moms. Kids will get an up-close look at the wildlife that lives right in their backyard and learn compassion for them at the same time.

No need to break out the sewing machine for these cozy accessories! Mix and match prints with all the fleece that will be on sale after the holidays, then follow these straightforward instructions from Easy Peasy Creative. Your whole family can be twinning—and oh so warm—in no time.

Whether you’re decking the halls with family, exchanging gifts with friends, or sipping egg nog with coworkers, the holidays are a time for gathering and spending quality time together. And once the party’s soundtrack, menu, and decorations are all set in place, the next item on the agenda for any great Christmas get-together is entertainment. That’s where Christmas holiday party games come into play. From White Elephant to Name that Holiday Tune to Christmas Movie Bingo, holiday games are a fun, creative way to get everyone engaged and excited.

Below, you’ll find all of the information you need to get started on your holiday party game night, whether you’re wondering how Secret Santa works or wanting to learn the White Elephant rules. We also give you tips for upping the fun factor and keeping everyone on their toes. Keep reading for our rundown of the season’s most popular Christmas games for kids and adults. Let the fun Christmas games commence!

White Elephant turns regular-old gifting into a lively game. Everyone brings one wrapped gift and leaves with something else, but in between, fun (and a little bit of friendly competition) ensue. Ahead of your gathering, designate a price limit for everyone to spend on their gifts. Or, if you’re into up-cycling, have everyone bring something that they already own. The most important thing is that all of the gifts arrive to the party already wrapped.

What You Need: Pen, paper, a bowl or hat, and wrapped gifts from each player.

How to Play:

  1. Gather in a circle and put all of the wrapped gifts in the middle.
  2. Write down numbers on slips of paper (1–5 for five players, 1–10 for 10 players, etc.), and have everyone pick one at random to determine the order of play.
  3. Player 1 chooses a gift from the middle and unwraps it.
  4. Player 2’s turn is where it starts getting fun. They can either unwrap a new gift from the middle or steal the already unwrapped gift. If they choose to steal, Player 1 gets to unwrap a new gift.
  5. Play continues down the line of numbers. Player 3 can either steal an unwrapped present from someone else or choose a new one from the middle. Once everyone in the round has a gift, the next person goes.
  6. Each gift can only be stolen three times per round.
  7. At the end of the game once all of the gifts are unwrapped, Player 1 gets a chance to trade with a player of their choice.

From tree-trimming scenes and family meals to romantic meet-cutes and kisses under the mistletoe, Christmas movies are filled with delightful cliches. Christmas Movie Bingo celebrates these holiday tropes, and it’s one of the most fun family Christmas games of the season.

What You Need: Bingo cards, markers or daubers, your favorite Christmas movies, and a prize for the winner.

How to Play:

  1. Print and distribute cards and daubers to everyone playing the game.
  2. Pop in your favorite Christmas movie, and have everyone mark their cards as the movie showcases what’s on their spaces.
  3. Keep going until someone calls “Bingo!”

Christmastime brings no shortage of tacky attire, and at the pinnacle of it all is the ugly sweater. For guaranteed hilarity, challenge your family and friends  to an ugly sweater contest this year.

What You Need: A prize for the winner!

How to Play:

  1. Everyone shows up wearing their ugliest, tackiest, most unpleasing Christmas sweaters.
  2. Once you’ve all stopped laughing each other’s fashion faux pas, it’s time for the judging!
  3. Assign a judge (or panel of judges) to decide on a winner.

Every group’s Secret Santa rules differ, but no matter where you play, the basic premise is the same: Instead of everyone buying gifts for everyone else (which can get cumbersome and pricey), each gifter is secretly assigned a giftee ahead of your gathering. Set a spending limit, and instruct everyone to wrap their gifts before coming to the party.

What You Need: Your friends, family, and/or coworkers and their wrapped gifts.

How to Play:

  1. Gather in a circle and put all of the wrapped gifts in the middle.
  2. One by one, each player opens their designated gift.
  3. The gift giver can reveal that it’s from them, or the giftee can try to guess who their present is from.

Ready to test your knowledge of classic Christmas facts, traditions, and more? Assemble the gang for a game of Christmas trivia. You’ll need at least three players and a list of questions to get started.

What You Need: Trivia questions and answers, pens, and paper.

How to Play:

  1. Designate one person as the emcee. Everyone else can either team up or play individually.
  2. As the emcee reads questions, each team/player marks their answers on a piece of paper.
  3. After all of the questions are read, the emcee tallies up the scores and declares the winner.

Pro Tip: To up the excitement, split the questions into three or four rounds, with each round getting progressively harder and worth more points.

The saran wrap game tests players’ luck and dexterity while everyone else looks on with laughter. Ahead of time, the party’s host gathers small trinkets and gifts—think gift cards, mini candy bars, toys, cash, etc.) With a roll of saran wrap, wrap one trinket that will become the center of a much larger ball. Without cutting or ripping the wrap, continue adding trinkets and wrapping them to form a ball. When you finish with the first roll of saran wrap, open up a second one and keep going until you’re out of prizes and have a big ball of plastic wrap and presents in your hand.

What You Need: A saran wrap ball filled with trinkets and gift cards, oven mitts, and dice.

How to Play:

  1. Everyone sits in a circle, and the party’s host chooses one person to go first.
  2. When play starts, Player 1 puts on the oven mitts and tries to unwrap and reveal as many prizes as quickly possible.
  3. Meanwhile, Player 2 (the person to the left of the unwrapper) rolls the dice until they get doubles.
  4. When Player 2 rolls doubles, the dice, oven mitts, and saran wrap ball all get passed one spot to the left.
  5. Player 2 puts on the oven mitts and tries to unwrap as much of the ball as possible Player 3 rolls doubles.
  6. Play continues until the ball is completely unrolled and no prizes remain.

From “Deck the Halls” to “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” the holiday season’s soundtrack is filled with earworms that we all know and love. This game is your chance to show off how fast you and your peeps can identify classic holiday tunes from just the first few notes.

What You Need: A Christmas playlist of the season’s most iconic, festive songs.

How to Play:

  1. Designate one person as the emcee, and split everyone else into two teams.
  2. The emcee starts playing song for the group, and the first team to correctly identify it gets a point.
  3. Gameplay continues song by song, and the team with the most points at the end wins.
  4. Option: Instead of skipping right to the next song, let the music play so that everyone can sing and dance along. It is a party, after all!

Left Right Christmas is one of the simplest family Christmas games for players of all ages. Everyone starts with their own wrapped gift, but the goodie they’ll leave with is a mystery until the very end.

What You Need: A Christmas-themed story and wrapped gifts from each player.

How to Play:

  1. Download (or write) a story with lots of mentions of the words “left” and “right.”
  2. Gather the group in a circle with everyone holding the wrapped gift that they brought.
  3. Designate someone to read the story. Every time they read the words “left” or “right,” everyone passes their gifts one spot around the circle accordingly.
  4. Everyone takes home the gift they end up with when the story ends.
