You may know him for his iconic characters in Sex and the City<\/em><\/a>, Dune<\/em>, Twin Peaks<\/em>, and Fallout<\/em>\u2014but Kyle MacLachlan’s role is all kilts and sledgehammers on this episode<\/a> of Celebrity IOU<\/em>. This week, he’s joining forces with Drew and Jonathan to bring someone special the surprise of a lifetime. Together, they’re turning Kyle’s close family friend’s garage into a beautiful, functional flex space the whole family can use\u2014and embracing their shared Scottish roots along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mary Therese (MT) was a nanny to Kyle’s son Callum for nearly 15 years, and now she’s part of the family. MT’s mom, Arlene, lives in Wisconsin, and there’s a chance that she’ll need to move in with MT, Joe, and their daughter Maddy soon. Right now, though, they don’t have the extra space<\/a> to give her a bedroom. So Kyle wants to help and surprise MT with a beautiful flex space that can do it all\u2014be an additional living area<\/a> to relax and unwind as a family, act as a guest room for Arlene, pull triple duty as a laundry room<\/a>\u2014and<\/em> still be able to function as a garage (since it’ll be a flex space, not an ADU, as per permitting orders).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MT, Joe, and Maddy are out of town visiting family in Wisconsin, and while they’re away, Kyle’s decided to totally renovate the space top-to-bottom. She and her family mean so much to Kyle, his wife Desiree, and Callum, and he hopes this gesture shows her just how much she’s loved. “MT came into our lives and immediately transformed everything,” Kyle says. “When you have kids, you want to surround them with the best possible people\u2014mentors, people to look up to, people to aspire to be\u2014and she’s been a life-changer for our family.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comfortable Living<\/h5>

MT loves the modern farmhouse look, and adding touches of reclaimed wood, as we see here in the coffee table, provide that rustic touch. Cozy seating<\/a> and a plush area rug<\/a> make the space feel comfortable and inviting for everyone.<\/p>\n

Custom cabinetry behind the sofa conceals a fridge<\/a> and kitchenette, with plenty of storage and even a hidden laundry folding station. The carriage doors are a serious upgrade from the old garage door, too! It’s a far more sleek, elegant option that creates a style statement both inside and outside.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Multifaceted Spaces<\/h5>

The flex space Kyle, Drew, and Jonathan created has a bounty of opportunity: It’s a beautiful rec room for MT, Joe, and Maddy; a great chill zone for family parties or sleepovers; a functional space for storage<\/a> (especially with the addition of the attic space) and laundry;<\/a> and can easily turn into a gorgeous guest suite<\/a> when Arlene needs it.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Luxe Additions<\/h5>

They went with a luxury vinyl flooring to stay in ordinance with city permit requirements for flex garage spaces (you have to use a floor type that you’ll be able to drive your car onto). But can you believe how beautiful this looks?! This chic floor makes the space feel less like a flex room and more like a permanent part of the home.<\/p>\n

They also decided to give the entertainment zone a luxurious touch by incorporating a magic TV. With the press of a button, the TV will automatically lower itself out of sight behind the cabinetry. That way, they can enjoy TV time when they want it, and let the natural light in when they don’t.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n
